I just stumbled across this article on the BBC website – https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cge8zr8v1j4o

It appears that the chap involved went on the run in 2000 after killing 2 cyclist in 1999. He’s finally been tracked down and I find it encouraging that he was still on the radar of the police all these years later.

And got a decent sentence too – in the scheme of things

12 years for two counts of Causing Death by Dangerous driving, or six years per life still feels a bit lenient (IMO).

I’m assuming there will be a separate charge/sentencing for the 24 years of evading arrest?

Hence I added “in the scheme of things”. Arguably it should be higher, but I’m biased as a vulnerable cyclist, I don’t know how it stacks up against similar sentences for manslaughter (which is how it should be treated) but we see reports of lower sentences, sadly.

Seems a better result than the average case.

A much better outcome than the usual 6 to 18 months suspended sentence for “death by careless driving”!

I suspect it’s that long as punishment for evading the Police for 24 years.

If he had stayed put I’m sure he would have got off leniently.
