- Cycling in Alsace
Beautiful area and really interesting. Done a bit of road riding from Ribeauville which was ace, stay off the N roads and there’s loads of quiet well surfaced roads up into the Vosges. Not really got any specifics as it’s all good. All the villages we have been to have been great, food is good and wine brilliant and really good value.Posted 3 years ago
Not mountain biking but road touring.
I’ve got a few days spare holidays to use and am thinking about sticking the tent and some stuff on the bike and heading off for a few days pootling around, just on my own. I’m thinking of a few places and Alsace is one of them. I’m not looking to do massive distances, just meander around enjoying the sun and sampling nice food and wine.
Anyone ever done this in Alsace? Any recommendations?Posted 3 years ago
Cheers for the info guys. Ae there plenty campsites around? My experience of the rest of France is that the municipal campsites are generally quite good, and there are plenty around.
As for the weather being hit or miss, hey, I live in Scotland. 🙂
Wouldn’t be planning to bring any wine back, just sample some nice ones out there. The food sounds delicious too. Mrs Kenny is a veggie, and hates white wine, hence the reason a trip to Alsace is only ever likely to be me!Posted 3 years agoDougDMember
Spent 9 or 10 days over there a couple of years ago and highly recommend it. Beautiful countryside and villages and excellent wine.
Got the eurostar over to paris then tgv onto strasbourg. cycled down the French side of the Rhine through molsheim, obernai, selestat, ribeauville, colmar to mulhouse.
Then ditched the panniers for a day and rode the grand ballon. Following day was breakfast in France (mulhouse) lunch in Switzerland (Basel) and dinner in Germany.
Continued up the German side of the Rhine back to Strasboug. Ditched the panniers again and did a nice circular day route through some of the forests to the north.
Loads to explore there and plenty of quiet roads or dedicated cycle paths to choose from.
can’t comment on the campsite situation, just used b&bs and cheap hostelsPosted 3 years ago
