    Do people bother?

It’s been a while since I fitted a steel fork but I’ve picked up a set of those nice Singular Swift forks for my Swift (currently running a carbon fork).

The crown race been looks a little gritty and untidy (compared to other forks I’ve fitted) plus there’s paint on it and some reddish material that might be dried grease. I’m inclined to think that a few firm whacks with the crown setting tool will settle everything into place and dislodge any debris I can’t shift myself, but I was wondering whether folks would recommend getting the LBS to face the crown race bed?

Is this a worthwhile procedure or unnecessary?

If it’s uneven with flaking paint then I’d get it cleaned up.

It’s not too bad to be fair, but probably worth getting it done right before fitting.

Scotchbrite to remove the paint/whatever it is, and a wee file to take any high metal away.

I think it’s more of a hangover from loose ball headsets where it was more crucial. I’d not bother if it’s fairly flat.
