    Oh for goodness sake put some socks on, preferably not white, and go for a run. When you get back buy something from Decathlon, Running Bear or Start Fitness. Enjoy 🙂

    I wear some cheap tennis socks. As long as they’re clean to start with, they seem fine, were 3 pairs for a fiver from jd sports or somewhere like that.

    If it is really cold I have some cold weather cycling socks (wooly boolies I think), and if it is snowy I’ve got hiking socks which do the job.

    I’m a bit sceptical about the whole gait analysis / corrective shoes business – I’ve bought shoes from the same shop twice and been analysed, and been told that I need pronation correcting shoes once, and neutral shoes the other time. I just buy neutral or less cushioned shoes. Fit is important in the same way as any other shoe – you don’t want blisters when you get wet, but if the whole corrective shoes thing was true people wouldn’t get so many injuries any more when they clearly do.

    Same for the whole chuck out shoes after a couple of hundred miles thing, always seems like something made up by running shops and shoe manufacturers – I change mine when they have too many holes, and they seem fine to run in (and I don’t get injuries).

    Socks really aren’t that important, so long as they fit. Sports socks obviously will help.

    But if you must, Pete Blands do a decent pair at an ok price

    It’s funny, because a number of running websites and magazune have stressed how important socks are. TBH it’s not something I’ve ever worried out, but being new to the whole running malarky I just thought I’d ask.

    It seems that running mags and websites are as bad as mtb ones for trying to sell you stuff 😉

    I guarantee that you will only ever need to buy 4 running magazines.

    One for each season, job done. And that’s pushing it.

    Unless you like buying a magazines headlining “you’re best Summer/Winter ever” but with the latest running fashion on the front. Dreadful things! Same old stuff rehashed over and over and over. If you really want knowledge, then buy a decent book on the subject. Or just browse the net. Other than that just go and run about, it’s quite natural really.

    Socks, they just need to be for running, and to fit.

    Proper fitting trail running trainers made a huge difference to my cross country running. I do recommend going to a runing shop to have your gait checked and to try on different pairs.
    Mine are Saucony Peregrine 2s and they are the best pair ive ever owned.

    Aren’t off road shoes all neutral? No need for all that gait drivel. And that was a ‘specialist’ in a running shop that said that.

    @Nobeerinthefridge

    Proper off road shoes are I believe all neutral, but there is a large number of “trail” shoes out there that are just road shoes in disguise.
