- Crest ERD. My measurements are way out. Confused. Please help.
I’m measuring an average of 532.5 according to the wheelpro measuring method (spokes flush with bottom of driver flat in nipples.
Sticker says 540, others elsewhere on the net say 539 or 541. Why am I so far out? Is Musson’s measuring method different to others and does it give different results particular to the wheelpro spoke length calculator?
Or do I need a new ruler?
Thanks.Posted 4 years ago
OK, what’s the mating face?
I’ve only got 2 spare spokes, and thought I may as well keep them intact.
2 spokes with tape marking 210mm, threaded into holes, nipples on so spoke ends are flush with the bottom of the driver flats. Left hand finger and thumb on J bends, making sure the spokes are in line, right hand operating the ruler, right eye squinted shut, tongue poking out of left corner of mouth. Measured 4 or 5 times around both rims, all measurements between 112mm and 113mm. then I did the Math.Posted 4 years ago
I did the measuring last night but thought I’d post this morning for the increased chance of replies. I did think this morning that I would have liked to check once more.
I can’t read, or count, or add up.
There I said it.
To get the excuses out of the way, I’m blaming him:
It never fails to surprise me how persistent some assumptions can be the face of visual evidence to the contrary. I knew it would be a bit more than 10cms, I read “12” and added that up to 112. There were even 2 little check markers to show that the last digit was a 2.
I did this LOADS of times. (while drinking rum and watching Sherlock, admittedly)
At no point, until I got back this evening and had another look, did I challenge the assumption that the the big “12” and the other 2 markers might not mean 112.
