The BB of my Whyte Stirling is beginning to creak ever so slightly, I’m guessing from the threads.

It’s an external GPX (similar to Hollowtech II) and I’ve ordered a new one but I plan to strip the current one tonight to try to stop the creak.

My question is, when reassembling, should I put grease/copper-slip/thread lock on the threads? Assume thread lock but I’m doubting myself.

Me personally a bit of grease.

Never used copperslip or thread lock on a bb.

    No doubt others have though?

Make sure its not the seat clamp or pedals before pulling out the bb

Grease is fine IME, coppaslip works too and some say is better.

I wouldn’t replace the BB for a creak personally.
