OP – seriously, I know what it is like when there’s a cock-up and you know full well that the only person to blame is yourself – honestly, nothing makes me angrier.

But on the flipside, thanks so much for sharing – as the needle on your rage-o-meter has gone up, so has the amusement value – very much in the Basil Fawlty manner.

Have a bit of a word with yourself if you want to prevent stuff like this happening in the future. Not leaving everything to the last minute and doing a bit of planning is ‘dull’ but it sure makes life easier.

– Theoretically fine headset but one that doesn’t actually fit without noticeable play when it’s installed.

My bet* is on something unnoticed when building up, but catastrophic on holiday day 1… a carelessly positioned limit screw which causes the chain to jump off and gouge the stay perhaps… or a sticker covering a crack on a poorly QC’d frame which snaps on the first drop-off…
