Stripping stuff down today, found a couple of cracks:

Cant understand why the cable rubbed through the frame, I did put a wear patch on it….

Or should I consider, In Monty Python style, these are mere scratches and MTFU…

Joking aside, its being retired today. Many years of enjoyment on several continents… like a racehorse, its going out to stud.

Found this whilst stripping to build its successor, so its time was up.

ATB should warrenty the rear swinging arm, not so sure about the rest, but might sell you one cheap..

I remember seeing someone (probably on here) that had used cable ties wrapped around the frame acting as a spacer between the cable and the frame. At the time I thought it was overkill but after seeing those pics it seems like genius.

I’m sure ATB would have replaced the swingarm under warranty if it wasn’t for the cable rub. It does look like if you’d cleaned the bike once in a while you might have spotted the damage while it was still in with a chance of a warranty replacement.

I’m not an expert, right, but I’d say that’s farked. 😀

Bit of Polyfilla should sort it though.

Dibbs, I admit I am not a fastideous bike cleaner but it did get a lot of washing… The problem was cable tieing it to the frame rather than being loose…. around the suspension pivot area it rubbed on teh frame rather than flapping around…

bin it and I ride a cracked frame how on earth did you not spot that gash 😯

yikes! Could try and get them to warranty the arm because of the dropout crack but they may comment on the cable rub.

Junkyard, easy to miss, the cable sat nicely in it!

Its being retired today anyhow.. finding this was a bonus…

Flappy cables for me from now on…

Foxyrider.. erm, yes… last week in Portugal actually, 40k per day…..

Peter P.. guilty as charged. It was washed and cleaned regularly but I didnt inspect behind the cable tied gear outer. It was sitting in the now rubbed groove and on the surface looked ok..I think the suspension action must have caused the cable to rub back and forth held by the cable tie, hence concentrating the damage.
As I said, flappy cables for me now and the Mojo frame is well taped up..

I’ve cracked several Marin & Whyte frames and swingarms, but most times I’ve spotted the damage while cleaning the bike.

I managed to wear a groove into the alloy linkage on a Litespeed Niota after zip tying the rear brake hose. But nothing like that! I would say the rub was a good fit for a Petit Pois 🙂
