COVID vaccination side effects. What were yours?

The day is still quite young, but so far, it’s the first day since the jab on Monday 12th when I generally feel no worse than the previous day. Still not right though, a marginally longer walk than yesterday still felt harder work than it should have and I still have aches and pains along with fatigue.
juliansFree MemberHad the az vaccine at 11.30 am today, feeling fine at present, but the nurse essentially said to expect to feel rubbish tomorrow. Not looking forward to that…..
chakapingFree MemberFelt fresh as a daisy yesterday morning and last night’s ride was totally fine.
Today’s dog walk was quite challenging, but that was because I whacked my knee on the bedpost in the night.

Ties in with anecdotal feedback from a mate who’s a vaccinator. He’s been asking everyone in for a second jab about their reaction to the first one and says that those who’ve had covid are generally reacting more strongly. Similar to you, the missus was jabbed on a Monday and reckons it took around ten days for her to feel 100% again.

I was pondering to myself whether reaction to the jab might be proportional to the reaction people had to Covid itself. My experience was very similar, but scaled down IYKWIM.
Some may have had asympomatic Covid and never been diagnosed, and may have no jab side effects?
So I wonder, did anyone here have Covid with notable symptoms – but no side effects from their jab?
juliansFree MemberSo, I had the az vaccine about 24 hours ago, and so far I feel fine,i maybe feel a bit tired, but that’s it.
My resting heart rate is about 20bpm higher than normal according to my garmin though, so something is going on, although that could be down to one too many gin and tonics last night
n0b0dy0ftheg0atFree MemberThat’s reassuring @BadlyWiredDog , have you had your first jab yet?
How have other long Covid STWers felt after the jab? From my awful memory @Tired @Ahsat
I’ve had a dull headache since yesterday lunchtime, switched from back to front of head, paracetamol and ibuprofen haven’t relieved it. Time to get out of bed very late for me, having woken for a while around 0500.
brukFull MemberI had the AZ on Friday afternoon. Felt fine Friday evening other than a slightly sore arm. Took some paracetamol after it but then didn’t continue. 1 glass of red before normal bedtime. Woke Saturday and felt really achy, tired, fuzzy headed. Like a Hangover kind of headache. Took some more paracetamol and had a lazy morning and felt better by teatime but still not 100%. Fine this morning but Garmin has resting heart rate up by 10bpm from Friday afternoon. Kind of what I expected.
My wife had it on the Thursday and I came home Friday afternoon to find her in bed not feeling great. Again just 24-36 hours. She reckons she had COVID last year as when we were in the French Alps in February she felt rough for a day and then lost her sense of smell for about 3-4 weeks. Long before we knew much about COVID. I may have been lucky or just asymptomatic.
Still happy I’ve had it even if my arm is still a bit sore.
MIL had 2nd Pfizer on Friday and having been fine for the first was feeling a bit ‘off’ yesterday though she was blaming the sore arm on the poor technique of the vaccinator!
ahsatFull Member@n0b0dy0ftheg0at Good memory and thanks for asking; but as I’m in my mid 30s, no jab for me yet. Trying to not get too hopeful that it helps the long COVID.
Good luck with the headache. Hope it shifts ASAP. The COVID headache is like the worse hangover ever, and then my long COVID headache carried on for 3+ months, now only been helped by amitriptyline.
djgloverFree MemberHad AZ yesterday at midday, by 8pm felt fatigue, at 2am woke with quite a high fever 38.5 and flu like symptoms and couldn’t sleep much after that. Seems to have abated this morning, but was quite unpleasant. The Mrs had no side effects beyond slightly tender arm
BadlyWiredDogFull MemberThat’s reassuring @BadlyWiredDog , have you had your first jab yet?
Yep, I had AZ five weeks ago today. Initial day-and-a-half of flu-like symptoms, then a day when I felt pretty good, but since then four weeks that have felt like I’ve regressed six months with reduced exercise tolerance, nausea and shakiness from computer time, weird adrenaline spikes. But seem to be pulling out of it now and getting back to my pre-jab baseline, maybe beyond and back to slow improvement bar some weird new occasional dizziness.
Quite a few long haulers have had a similar grumbly reaction, some – including two mates – have improved markedly after having the jab. Very few have worsened. And of course coincidence isn’t causality, placebo effects etc. I guess it’s not wholly unexpected if you give a slightly dysfunctional immune system a thorough terrier with rat shake-up. I think response is supposed to peak around four weeks post jab, so hopefully everything will calm down and my second jab will be less of a cluster 🙂
n0b0dy0ftheg0atFree MemberHopefully not much longer until your first jab, @Ahsat, that long Covid headache sounds nasty!
Sounds like you had another rollercoaster ride @BadlyWiredDog, hopefully the upward trajectory will continue after that prolonged downturn.
That dull headache that started Saturday lunch got more intense yesterday despite painkillers, started to seriously think about calling 111 around 1700, but after using a cold press for ~10mins I got a bit of relief until bedtime.
Woke up randomly at 0400 for a while and finally crawled out of bed just before 0900, feeling groggy and I can feel the headache very mildly in the background, bit of same aches and pains in muscles and joints.
Need to decide if I’m fit enough to return to work tomorrow or get a sick note, far from a clear cut decision right now as postie shifts are far from easy during Covid.
marcg868Free MemberSecond Pfizer vaccine yesterday. The healthcare that administered the vaccine is the bloke you definitely want if you are needle phobic etc didn’t even feel it, had to look to see he’d given it to me.
No side effects worth mentioning apart from minor fatigue, slept most of the afternoon and only woke up to eat then early to bed, 14-16 hours of sleep.Today just a very dull ache from vaccine site, and still feel a little tired but that might be the effects of the daily antihistamine I take to be honest.
petecFree MemberModerna last Tuesday.
Wednesday – arm felt dead; painful and very heavy. Almost as if it had a local anaesthetic, but with pain. Which is odd.
Thurday – all gone; back to normalSince then, nothing.
beejFull MemberSecond AZ Saturday. For the first one I had 24 hours of feeling a bit rubbish, from midday the day after the jab.
No reaction to the second jab at all.
BunnyhopFull MemberHubby had Moderna last week. Bit of a sore arm, then 3 days later, he was really tired and had to go to bed. He’s fine now.
Interesting regarding the thoughts that people who had C19 have bad side effects.
A good friend just had a few hours of chills and shaking after her jab and she’s had the virus.
I definitely haven’t had the virus but had the full list of side effects from Ox/AZ (except headache).thenorthwindFull MemberNearly 4 days on now, and despite a pretty busy, physically active weekend with two pub sessions, I haven’t felt any worse for wear. Guessing I would have done by now if I was going to? Counting myself pretty lucky.
juliansFree Memberi’m now 48 hours on from the az jab, symptoms got a bit worse yesterday as the day wore on, but nothing too bad, just felt like a hangover, went to bed early, woke up this morning all fine, so hopefully its now worked through my system and thats the end of it.
All in all – not too bad considering what some others have felt.
EdukatorFree MemberGuessing I would have done by now if I was going to?
Nope you’ve just entered the risk period for blood clots. People who get them are affected 3-14 days after vaccination depending on where you look. 3-10 days in this link:
Edit: I’m now 10 days in and nothing to report beyond mild fatique the day after the AZ jab (4h MTB might have had something to do with the fatigue). Madame had her AZ jab on Friday and spent most of Saturday in bed, she’s fine now.
jp-t853Full MemberMrs JP and I had AZ at Grasmere early on Saturday morning. I have felt fine other than a ache in the arm around the jab. Mrs JP went to bed at 8pm Saturday shivering with cold, at 10pm she was complaining of being too hot but got up and started shivering again. Up at 1am and felt dizzy but then pretty much fine in the morning. Hopefully that is us done but will keep a watch out for further symptoms.
wonnyjFree MemberHad the Pfizer last week (aged 39 in Wales) at lunchtime.
First evening i felt really quite pleasantly stoned it was great.
Next day felt fine, but that night had a bit of a fever when dropping off to sleep.
Following day felt normal again.specialisthoprockerFree MemberHow have other long Covid STWers felt after the jab? From my awful memory @Tired @Ahsat
Had the AZ jab on the 6th. Crazy temp about 10 hours later including fingertips going numb and pins and needles all over my body. Paracetamol knocked it on the head after about 5 hours. Had a dead arm about 10 days later too which was odd.
The long covid is grumbling on, too early to say if there is a improvement or otherwise as it is a mercurial and totally unreliable illness at best.
Mounty_73Full MemberI had my second pfizer jab yesterday at 12.30pm. I felt ok yesterday, woke up this morning aching heavy arm, banging head ache and aching head to to toe, flu like symptoms.
I had exactly the same symptoms with the first jab. The nurse told me that for most people the symptoms only last around 24 hours, but there are a small group of people who are suffering 2 to 3 days or more.
The first jab felt like it was a huge thick needle and hurt like hell. I didnt feel a thing with the second jab.
andyxmFree MemberFirst AZ jab Sunday 4.30, went for a ride in the evening. woke at 4am very shivery/ aches and bizarrely balls of feet hurt when walking.
Fine by midday.
giant_scumFree MemberMy 83 year old Mother had her second jab last Tuesday, 48 hours of feeling rough. Friday Saturday she was okay. Then yesterday, Sunday, shivering and unable to get warmed up, then it changed to being drenched in sweat last night. Phoned NHS 24 and she has had to go for a covid test today!
I had my first jab on Saturday (Pfizer) arm is a bit tender where the injection was, hoping that’s the worst of it!
EdukatorFree MemberMadame has now come out in a rash of red pimples around her back, vaccinated last Friday.
TrailriderJimFree MemberAZ first on Friday. Started to feel very tired and a bit cold-y Friday evening. Woke up Saturday with zero energy and feeling like I had a very heavy cold. Energy slowly returned Sunday, just about enough to mow the lawn. Slept like a log with some funky dreams. At work today but found it really hard to focus on all but the most tedious tasks. Only now starting to feel like I’m recovering. Fit and healthy 48 year old, two MTB rides a week, c. 70k metres vert ascent a year. Didnt expect to be hit quite so hard by it.
chewkwFree MemberHad my first AZ jab several weeks ago. Was not in the hurry to make the appointment even when the letter was sent to me earlier.
Before the jab I already had slight headache which would normally last for few hours but after the jab I got timely headache for 3 nights continuously. On the day of the jab I was fine until around 12.30am to 1am where my headache started and could not stay awake any longer (usually I can stay awake with only 3 hours sleep), so went to sleep early.
The next day all fine, no sore arm, normal etc, but at exactly 12.30am to 1am again the headache started so went to bed early. This headache continued for 3 nights at the same time. I felt fine an normal during the day but at the exact timing the headache appeared.
p/s: since then I felt like there was a headache coming but that did not happen but felt like having a very mild pressure before headache.
After 3 days all normal but now I can sleep for very long hour for 10 hours sometimes creating headache sometimes. I recall immediately after the day of the jab I slept early but seem to wake up earlier than normal at 6am.
alanlFree MemberPfizer 6 weeks ago.
Since then, I’ve been ‘snotty’ every morning, and regularly have to blow my nose. Something I havent done at all in the last 6 months+.
Also had an aching arm for rather longer than expected, 3 weeks after, there was still an aching spot on my arm, like someone had punched it.
Nothing to cause me trouble in the scheme of things, but maybe should be noted?n0b0dy0ftheg0atFree Member@Edukator iirc new red rashes are a reason to call 111 in UK.
EdukatorFree MemberThanks for that, will check what to do here.
Edit: Having looked at the government’s info it’s usually a non-serious side effect and we should contact a doctor if it persists three days.
scamperjenkinsFree MemberHad the Moderna Sat 5pm. Achy arm for 24hrs. Since Sunday morning had slight aches, runny nose, tiredness. However, if it wasn’t for the jab I’d prob not even notice the symptoms or put them down to a few glasses of red 😆
neilnevillFree MemberGot 1st ox az dose at 1015 yesterday. Felt fine until about 9 pm and within 90 minutes I’d gone from sore arm, through muscle aches, to full shivers. Went to bed with paracetamol and sweated the night through. A bit better this morning but generally rough. I’m 48 next month and AFAIK haven’t had covid.
dthom3ukFull MemberI had the AZ jab yesterday at lunchtime. 12 hours later I started with the chills and then the sweating. I had a pretty restless night and my resting HR last night was 10-15 bpm higher than normal. I woke this morning to what felt like a mild hangover. I immediately took some paracetamol and feel a bit better now although I still have a dull headache. My Mrs has her AZ jab yesterday and she is fine.
hubamonsterFree MemberHad AZ jab 17th April.
Had flu like symptons for a couple of days, which I battled through.
Still not right now (headaches/dizzy/fatigue/arm weakness), had to stop training totally. Its odd as I’m very fit, never get ill and never visit the doctors, the one time I have I’m been in years I’ve been ill ever since.
I can carry on with life, I’m tired, and I’d get the jab again, but it’s not what I was expecting. I’m 42, few friends had it and only suffered a day or so. I think I had covid last year but didnt have a positive result. Just hoping i can get back to running and cycling soon
weeksyFull MemberMine yesterday, woke up for 20sec in the night with a sweat, but feel fine and dandy.
Arguably a tiny bit of an ache in my arm, but nothing really.
jimdubleyouFull MemberJabbed yesterday morning.
Felt a bit cold last night, and woke up achey this morning – might just have been the busy weekend though.
Bit of a snot nose, bit tired this morning – but nothing more that I’d expect from staying up on the playstationy :).
EdukatorFree MemberMadame’s rash has all but gone this morning. It was just as if she’d eaten a sea food menu with shell fish, same sort of rash.
