  • Could we organise a STW book swap thing?

Just arranged to do a little swap of a couple of cycling books with someone on here, and it made me think of an idea that I've been nursing for a while.

I know there already exists that 'Bookcrossing' thing where you leave/get books in the 'wild' but wondered if we could create some sort of STW book swap / gift thing?

Basically I'd like to offer books (cycling and other non-fiction stuff), and maybe swap for other people's similar.

A thread is the obvious answer, but becomes unwieldy? Is there already a website / 'app' for this sort of thing, or could one be created?

    Just a thought!

    🙂

    Check out ReadIt SwapIt.

I joined ages ago and put up some books I wanted to get rid of, including some really random stuff. People then requested to swap one of their books for one of mine, but all of their's were complete twaddle. I'm sure it works for some people, but not for me thus far.

Just joined that. Can I search for you by user name?

Sorry…but I love my books and very rarely lend them out.
I like to read them a couple times.
    Oh, and why only non-fiction?

Bookmooch sounds like what you want.

List your books, you get I think 1/10th of a point per book listed & a point per book given, use your points to request books others have listed.

Looking at my profile I've had 84 books off there & given 68, must admit I haven't used it for a while and I need to update my list of books available to be "mooched".

You can get (& give) books overseas as well, it just costs more points.

Also, you can add "friends" so if people post their user names up, people can add them as friends and see what is being shared by STW members.

My "inventory" of books available to swap is here

Interesting perspective (honestly, no sarcasm!) I love books, but once I read them, I like to pass them on so that other people can love them too.

Strangely enough I only read non fiction these days. Used to be an avid reader of novels up to the age of about 25, then just couldn't read them anymore. Prefer biogs, travelogues etc nowadays.

I love the irony there. This is a written forum after all 😉

    Fairy nuff vdubber67.
Thing is, if I really love a book I like to have it on my bookcase to read again. I lend to close friends who I know will return it.
Some books I'll gladly part with, but others I need to keep.
    Strange?
    No idea…just me! 8)

Swap: Journey to the center of the earth,

Its about cycling from India to inner mongolia, the point on the earth furthest from the sea, done on old 6 speed road bikes with super minimalist kit (1 combination spanner, spare tube and puncture repair kit between them kinda sums it up, ohh and some new tyres 25mm posted to the halfway point to get them through the bits with no real roads!).

For: Any other cycling autobigraphy, training books, books on engineering etc.
