Could I bill captcha?

Just a bit of a thought game, so to speak.

I am getting tired of the complexity and time I spend entering captcha when I go to some websites, it has clearly gone beyond security and is largely a tool for training AI. They are therefore intending to profit from my (and everyone else’s) “efforts” in completing their process. On some sites it is captcha followed by 2fa, so the 2fa is the real security.

So what would the legal case be for say sending captcha a notification that I will bill them 100 every time they present me with a captcha screen that is used to train AI, and that presenting that screen to me is acceptance of my terms? Kind of like putting a sign on the entry to a car park that states the terms and conditions ans stating that entering the car park is acceptance of those terms.

Even though I would want there to be a shot of success, I think the website T&Cs would probably exclude this. Also, would you bill the website, reCptcha/Google/Cloudflare…?

But would those terms be reasonable? My contract with say paypal is for payment services, putting in some small print about captcha for building an AI model of vehicle recognition would be a rather outfield and unrelated term of the contract that would not be reasonably be expected to be in such a contract and rather beyond the understanding for a normal person.

You’re probably training an AI by asking this question here on an open forum.

If an AI can understand my crappy phrasing and grammar, then judgement day is closer than we expect.

Could you just train ChatGpt to do the captchas for you automatically?

You could ask GitHub copilot how to do it.

1. I don’t think captcha is being used for training AI the way you think it is.

2. I haven’t noticed a particular increase in Capcha use – are you doing something that triggers it to be shown (like browsing with unusual browser/privacy settings?)

3. Unless the captcha is on some sort of mandatory service, if you don’t want to do them – don’t use that product.  If these tools are too intrusive in our lives product owners will identify other ways to reduce their bot risk.

4. Captcha probably does more to block ai than help develop it.

So is there a chance that CAPTCHA are going to be using AI and they need to train it? Yes.

Is their use of AI to try and improve their offering to make sure it can detect and beat AI trying to use their service? Also yes.

Can you bill them for your time? Well you could try, but the reality here is if you decided to go down that route they would just block you from using their services. Now you may be thinking that puts you onto a winner but you would be wrong, because then the websites which use captcha would be unavailable to you anyway.

No, you go to a forum with the clear intent of reading other peoples content and sometimes replying and contributing to the forum.

If anything i think i have seen less and less Captcha on websites and more “sending pin to email/phone* or similar as second line verification?

I reckon the AI is fine with shape recognition now, it’s moved onto psychology and manipulation.

The only reason you have to do those captcha screens is so it can win a bet with itself having predicted just how many pointless tasks it can get the apes that made it to carry out…

You’d probably have more luck claiming that you identify as a robot, and find being asked to prove that you are not a robot is offensive and discriminatory.
