  • Cost of dental implants?

Has anybody had dental implants done and how much did they cost? I’m thinking of having a dental implant but my dentist is talking about £3K (it will need a bone graft as well). I’ve seen adverts in the Metro for them for £1K but would be worried about the quality of cheap dental work.

Anybody know what a reasonable price would be? It is for a canine tooth and I live in the south-east.

Busy all day so apologies if I don’t reply until this evening.

I had two done in Poland last year, about 1900 in total, no residual problems, I stayed over there for ten days (Two trips.) while it was done.

The surgery and staff were very professional, certainly the equal of UK surgeries I have been to.

I will dig out the details if you wish, it was near to Krakow.

I probably paid about £3k, it was one of a number of procedures so I don’t know the exact cost for just the implant.

I was more concerned about getting a good dentist that I trust than a good price so I’m sure I could have paid less. Given all the appointments involved it seems reasonable value but I struggle to see how people do it abroad and only go for a few days, I had multiple appointments over months.

I’ve had mine about 2 1/2 years now, no issues with it and still use the same dentist for normal check ups so I would get ongoing support anyway.

what you’ve been quoted is probably the going rate for the south east. Cost is partly dictated by the cost of living / wages / regulation / insuarance in the uk etc. It would be slightly cheaper in other parts of the country but not much. Bear in mind the bone graft means a second separate surgery which adds cost.

If you think of 3k in terms of other real life costs, like cars and holidays ( or mountain bikes) and think that its something permanent in your mouth you will use every time you speak or eat for far longer than your car or bike, its not bad value.

There are companies who are offering it cheaper in the uk. Think about how they are offering the treatment at a lower cost. You can bet the company directors are making at least as much cash as the place that quoted you 3 grand. They save costs and make profit by increasing speed and volume. That’s not always a good thing in the realm of elective surgery. They will also spend time trying to upsell over the basic price they advertise….

Going abroad will save you money, potentially a lot since the cost of providing dentistry is lower in places like Poland. Generally people who go abroad have a good experience if you do your research…..

    But……

If you have any kind of issue with the implants, even just a screw that needs tightening that’s a 3 min job, you might need to get on a plane and go back. There are lots of different implant systems and the tools to maintain them aren’t universal so you may not be able to get a minor issue addressed easily.

Also, if things go wrong you may not be as protected legally elsewhere, particularly after the end of 2020 since who knows what the score will be after Brexit.

You will need to factor in several visits to the dentist if you are thinking of going abroad for the treatment itself. I think my implant cost me between 3 and thousand euros here in Germany but my health insurance paid half.

Think yourself lucky it’s only one. Dentist recommended that I have a full clearance and a full dental implant (All on 4). Let’s just say I could buy a decent secondhand car for the same price. I think they mentioned individual teeth in passing at around £1500-1800 each but the bone graft bit may change that.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I’ll stick to the UK as it will be a 2 stage process for me (implant & bone graft, then crown fitted 3 months later once graft has taken).

I had pretty much the exact same procedure. One front tooth implant and I had a bone graft too. I’m sure I was about £3300 all in. That’s in Glasgow from what seems to be a fairly well respected implant specialist. Yeah, you could get it cheaper but I wouldn’t take the risk with something like that. Two years and no issues so far.

I paid a bit over 4k for mine, included a bone graft too. 8 or 9 years ago now. It seemed like a lot at the time but it’s the best 4 grand I ever spent. That was in Edinburgh.

I’ve had two, a few years apart. Both very conscientious dentists first a referral from my original dentist to a specialist and the second by the original dentist trained up by the specialist ?!? Lots of appointments over a lengthy period to get everything just right, including a bone graft when the screw in came loose at no extra cost. Both were in the £2000 bracket but well worth the effort and investment, Yorkshire if that helps.

My first denture after my Xmas 2013 RTA, an all plastic affair, drove me insane. Had to remove to get a decent sense of taste while eating, uncomfortable pressure on palette, some days my mouth would feel weird with the damn thing in or out.

When one of the two fake teeth broke off the plate and then I had to have the two real teeth between the gaps removed (somehow roots had turned into Swiss cheese) ~18 months ago, I paid up for a metal plate denture.

So much better, can wear while eating and have taste as there’s a big void in the plate, cost a fraction (on NHS) of the thousands it would cost for four implants.

My original root fills posts and bridge work lasted about 10yrs. Once they started to go the option was a denture or implants. I was advised to spend on stuff that you use everyday… and originally budgeted £1k per implant. However because of removing old stuff, temporary denture etc. My two implants, bridge for 4 teeth, and a new root canal and post cost about £5k. I shopped around to find a dentist who I could believe in, rather than on price. Took about a dozen visits over 12 months – 6 years ago. No regrets. When you see then Swiss made titanium hardware and tools for fitting, you can see where the money goes!

I was recently quoted 2k per tooth in north Cheshire, I decided I could get a lot of dentures for 4k so went for a plate instead which is working fine.

I hate reading these threads. I still have 3 baby teeth (no adults underneath) that have done Stirling service but at some stage need to be replaced. Sadly not together either so I doubt a denture would work. A big bill in the future 🙁

Colleague had one done at https://getyoursmileback.co.uk/ in Bucharest. British-run, top-level German-made hardware, and he said the surgery was better than any dentist he’d been to in the UK.

I still have 3 baby teeth

My dentist said that the oldest person he’d met with baby teeth was 58……….
