  • Converting a flat bar child's bike to a drop handlebar bike?

    Anyone done it?

I’ve built and maintained loads of my own bikes and tinkered with set ups and new kit, but there is currently a “spare” child’s bike in our house and I’m wondering about converting it from flat bars to drops and slick tyres.

I know it will increase the reach to the brakes, but the eldest has a larger bike himself now, so with more reach on a smaller bike it might be no issue.

Then I’d need an eight speed STI shifter, drop bars and probably need to swap the v-brakes for Canti’s or mini v’s?

Any other issues? Its a frog 55(? – the smallest one with gears). I know they do a drop barred bike that kind of size but I wanted a bit of a project…

Any thoughts? And where would I find some small drop bars?

Speak to frog might sell you the bars and shifters etc, they are usually pretty good with spares

Good plan, its the tiny drop bars I don’t see for sale so much, but maybe I haven’t looked that hard previously.
