Anyone live there? Worth bringing the bike this weekend or stick to walking? Thanks

Looking across the bay to the lakes this morning, lots of white on the ground.
Though the forecast for the weekend is 8c and rain.
Twas -9c just north of Carnforth this morning.

Kentmere was rideable on Monday night with the HP wood and 3 rivers descents being highlights. The climb up from Kentmere hall had a lot of soft snow and was basically a push. It took 2hr20min, double what the ride that would normally take.

We have had another 3 inches of snow since then as well so the conditions have no doubt changed. I think you may struggle to do any meaningful riding but there is plenty of fun to be had.

It was -8 in Kendal last night

-12c cockermouth this morning so its chilli, but yes its very bikeable if you like winter biking. Some of the side roads are dodgy if they’re hilly. It’s due a bit of a thaw from thursday so it’ll be different by the weekend no doubt.

    Where are you heading exactly?

Snowed yesterday but its nice and sunny today in the southern parts. Pretty chilly though.

There was masses of snow in Langdale last weekend, can’t imagine it will have melted much this week.

    Looking towards Windemere:

Doesn’t look like the snow’s in danger of melting today – Latrigg was all ridable on Tuesday night but up on Skiddaw it was knee deep in a lot of places. The well-trodden routes might be the safest bet. Sorry – haven’t been up Whinlatter since it snowed.

Generally in these conditions best to stick to the woods so Grizedale first as it lower in altitude terms than Whinlatter and also easier to get to when it snows (you can park in Hawkshead and go from there if the the road to moor top is inpassable).
There is still plenty of snow here and the temperature is only just getting above 0 during the day so nothing is really melting at the moment. Pretty heavy going on foot round Grasmere so bikes won’t be much easier.

It was like this yesterday in the South Lakes:

And is pretty much the same still today to be honest. There is a fair bit of ice about which would be my main worry and it is going to be worse in Keswick. But probably worth taking the bike… just incase 😉
