Has anyone used converters for clipless pedals to turn them into flats? My father currently has eggbeaters on a bike that he also uses to ride around town when he finds them too small to be comfortable so he ends frequently swapping to flats.

I have seen pubpedals for eggbeaters too but they don’t seem to be sold in the UK.

What your father has there is a classic n+1 scenario.

Egg beaters used to come with some clear flat-pedal-with-reflector things which clip on. I still use a pair every now and again. I may have a spare pair.

Other than that, the ones you’ve linked work ok and definitely better than bare pedals, but worth a bit of caution if you have your release tension high, they can be near impossible to remove with bare hands!

Why not just leave flat pedals on there?

Thanks, had not seen the clear things before but for the extra £6 the metal ones look a decent alternative (and flexible between brands).

The flat pedals can’t stay on as he often does 50+ mile rides on the bike and he wants clipless for that.

If you saw the garage you would know n+1 was not an option!

Pedalbobs. Doubt they are available for egg beaters. I use a set on look road pedals and they are great. For spds I resort to 323 deflation one side pedals.

Certainly with the plastic platforms for SPDs, it’s probably less effort just to change pedals over as needed.

If he’s happy to change to SPDs, the Wellgo QRD system might be worth a shot.

That Wellgo QRD is interesting. So you can quick release pedals between the adaptor bit? I guess it widens the Q factor but may not be such an issue.
