  • Cleaning and protecting exterior soft stone on house. What to use?

I’ve been asked to clean the front porch of someone’s house which is made of soft stone (could be limestone). They had it jetwashed by someone last time but this time they want it sealed with something after cleaning to prevent mould and general grime from building up. Has anyone done this, and what products did you use for cleaning/sealing afterwards?

Strictly speaking, you shouldn’t clean stonework. It builds up a patina over time which will protect it better than anything. Unfortunately this often looks unsightly. Just out of curiosity which area of the country?

I googled stone sealer and it basically came up with one company who I emailed for advice but they have not come back to me. The area I’m in is Surrey.
