  • Christmas decorations – when do you put yours up?

Just noticed on Facebook that someone put their Christmas tree up yesterday. That is the earliest I have ever known.

Personally I will be waiting until about the 22 – 23rd of Dec if I can stop the Mrs!

    When is too early?

Weekend before usually as I have time.

When do people take them down? Normally the 6th for me.

Me and my family love Christmas, more so because it’s the one time we all get to see each other properly. We put our decorations up from the first with a week where the tree sits in water in the garage.

ours will go up 1st December or there abouts.. I think Mrs Yunki has a binliner full of tinsel somewhere in her family tree (which would also explain the twinkle in her eye and the glittery stools)

    23rd.

(strange) guy in the place opposite has his not just up all year, but all the lights on 24/7/365. One way to ensure there’s never a blown bulb when you get them out of the attic.

In the US they are normally up from Thanksgiving (third Thursday in November), early/mid december for us usually.

Up 12 days before, down 12 days after. Pretty sure it’s rooted in some kind of superstition.

15th, happens to be my dad’s birthday and I used that as an excuse not to put them up any earlier.

most festivals, celebrations etc. last only a day or a week. somehow winterval has now stretched to almost exactly 1/3rd of a year.

first weekend in September is when the shops put winterval stuff on display, and try their hardest to make me eat Stollen. first weekend in January is when they take it all down, and instantly replace it with costumes for carnival.

This year it will be either the 7th or 14th.

Our youngest’s birthday is the 10th and I have fogotten the rule about having them up before or after her birthday.

The 6th. It’s St Nicholas’ Day, and seems as good a day as any.

That said, there is a bizarre, bizarre house on Bridge Street in Cardiff that put theirs up in October, and will leave it up, fully lit, until February. I know this, because I drive past it once a week, and they always leave the curtains open on their great big windows. 😐

Christmas decorations anywhere should be banned before December 1st.

    Bah, humbug.
But yes, we always put ours up in about mid-December.

I’m an Xmas fan, but limit upping anything relating to it until the W/e before and then they are downing the W/e after New Years Eve.

Have been known to up them on Xmas Eve and down day after NYD..

My birthday is in mid-December, and we don’t put anything tinselly up in my house until the day after at the earliest. Jesus can **** off if he thinks we’re going to start celebrating his birthday before I get to have mine, the sanctimonious hippy ****.

Usually about a week before. Most people dilute it too much, you end up with a sort of homeopathic christmas.
