Not for me, but for Mrs Grips. She has a degree in Literature, she’s only done retail jobs in the past, assistant manager stuff, but has only worked a year since coming to the UK in 2005 but 4 of those years were looking after kids.

I’ve no idea how one goes about finding a job outside of a specific profession for which you have specific skills. She’s highly competent, very hard working and so on, of course, but I dunno what it’s like trying to trade on those things rather than skills and direct experience.

    She’s highly competent

Surely this depends on the line of work?

    1. Decide what areas she wants to work in
    2. Determine what quals / experience are required
    3. If practicable work towards gaining those quals / skills / experience
    4. Apply for relevant jobs

    a freelance opportunity?

a good flexible freelance idea, even if it wasn’t her main source of income worth a thought maybe 🙂

a well written CV can highlight skills, giving specific examples, achievements, outcomes etc and would help with transferability

Difficult would be my guess. As I look around the business sector here there are a number of different routes people have taken to get where they are

    -Skilled technician
-Started in low skilled admin / customer service and worked way up
    -Graduate trainee
-Relevant previous experience in similar role

Almost none come in with no industry or relevant to job experience, althhough I have met a few where it is tenuous but they have very outgoing personalities.

I meant in general terms. As in, give her a job, it gets done well unless it’s welding or something.. 🙂

Of course, but she’s not a school leaver. The point is to get extra money into the house, rather than start an actual professional career.
