  • Can your body be too old for a ponytail?

Inspired by a certain recent thread, this got me wondering. Is a ponytail on a man – or indeed any longer hair something that you can get away with? Or as you age, should you crop your locks more?

I saw Jimmy Page on ‘It might get loud’ and must say he looks rather regal with his flowing locks (as does David Coverdale) – but it’s not for all men is it?

long hair is ok as long as its still in abundance on the top, to avoid the put-my-head-on-upside-down look

Pony tails on men are the same as pony tails on horses, lift it up and you find an a**hole underneath.

That is what I’ve heard, not sure it is true or not though.

    I go with this addage.

At the end of every rainbow is a crock of gold and at the end of every ponytail is a c-word.

    Yes.

And it can also be the wrong gender.

I wonder how many of the naysayers are follicly challenged?

I’ve had a ponytail for about 20 years. I’m quite happy with it, but I’d entertain changing it if I had the remotest idea what to do instead.

Cougar, do you usually wear your hair long, but tie it back up for practical reasons or is it always tied back? If the former fair enough, but if the latter it’s like having a number three all over and a rat on the back of your head. Why not just keep it short?

Yes I am losing my hair. 🙁

Can your body be too old for a ponytail?

Possibly! As long as hairline isn’t receding then it can look cool. On the other hand, if you have the aplomb to carry off a fedora, then that is seriously cool. 🙂

I don’t understand why some many guys shave their heads – embrace those locks whilst you can. But, polite request here, do regularly wash with shampoo especially after riding.

    Hope this helps. 😉

I will never forget the commotion which occurred in my house the day my father discovered that his teenage son used shampoo.

My mother came running to find out why my father was shouting, my horrified father informed her that he had overwhelming evidence that I had used shampoo on my hair, thereby providing conclusive proof that I was in fact homosexual. Apparently real men who have a natural and healthy attraction to women, just use a bar of soap on their barnet – not poncy shampoo.

I’ve yet to work out why the convict look is considered dignified. All these shaved heads I see everywhere speak or prison and/or lice.

Have some inagination. And grow a pony tail if you want one.

Now you know what people have been thinking…………..

Oh, I know what people have been thinking, as one large gentleman saw fit to loudly roll out that joke whilst standing directly behind me in the bar queue at a Rammstein gig the other day. It’s a sad day when I’m singled out as a freak for having long hair at a bloody rock concert.

Cougar, do you usually wear your hair long, but tie it back up for practical reasons or is it always tied back? If the former fair enough, but if the latter it’s like having a number three all over and a rat on the back of your head. Why not just keep it short?

I’d like to say the former; however, it gets tied back mostly out of habit these days. And, you’re right, why indeed. It’s ace at gigs, but for the other 99.99% of the time it’s just in the way. Problem is, as I’ve said, I’m utterly at a loss as to what else to do with it. I started a thread a while back to solicit ideas, which ended predictably badly. (-:
