    Why I didn’t need a spacer for the 12 speed cassette on the wheels (formula hubs) that came with my Big Dog but when I built a new wheel with a Pro 4 I do need one?

    Your original wheel had a “standard” 10 speed freehub, the Pro4 come with an 11spd road freehub which is 1.85mm longer so needs a spacer to run 11 or 12 speed HG spline mtb cassettes.
