As above- group of us doing a trip the the PDS in July, and we have a mega-tent for accommodation. We’re looking for a site preferably on the French side, not too far from a lift and comfortable for a week.

Ideally something that allows boys and girls to drink beer, have BBQ’s and open fires would be ideal. We’re not bothered about being near Morzine. Somewhere quieter would be nice, ideally in nice natural surroundings…?

    Ta!

There were a few people camped under the les gets bike park lift last year, not sure if its a proper site or if they just wild camped. Sure there’s plenty more though

Mates camped in Morzine last year, didn’t seem that convenient as its a little way out of town and a tedious mix of up and down to town. OK facilities and a few other bikers around. The official Les Gets campsite is better as its close to town but up quite a short steep hill. There are always camper vans / tents under the lift at Les Gets, looks a bit barren and hard ground.

There is a lot more to PDS than these two places though and I think your idea of finding somewhere else is a good one

Yup, the plan is to get out of the hotspots- Somewhere which feels a bit more ‘wilderness’. I don’t want to spend a week camping somewhere that feels a bit like being perpetually stuck in the Cwmcarn carpark on a bank holiday….

Somewhere around Avoriaz or Pre la Joux would be ideal. we’re driving over so a bit of a shuttle to lifts is bearable…

I’ve always stopped at Camping le Frêne in Les Gets. Its up the hill. Good facilities aswell.

The campsite in Morzine (down the valley towards the Carrefour) always used to be quite nice.

Just a bit of a trek into town every day. Better than staying LG though.

The other option is there is a large site in Chatel. It’s on the bus route from Chatel town to Pre La Joux so easy to get to the lifts & mostly easy to get back because its downhill all the way.

Group of us used Camping Marmotes last year, which was on the outskirts of Morzine. It’s pretty small, but the facilities are nice n clean and it has a little hut next door that sells the best post ride pizza’s ever!

We camped in Chatel for the PDS last year, small campsite, friendly but no open fires, they did have a swimming pool though,

only a pootle along the road from the bike park too

    Chatel Camping

might be full though as Chatel is the host for the PDS village this year

yes, i looked at the one you’ve listed for Chatel- its already full.

Anyone stayed further down the valley? There are nice looking sites at Abondance and St Jean d’Aulpes. They are further off the lifts, so it might involve a shuttle up in the mornings? could involve a nice descent home though!
