I’m hearing conflicting stories about whether the cable pull has changed for the front with the new 10-speed stuff. I just trashed an mech and I’m after a 42t mech and all I seem to find is XTR ten-speed. Anyone know if it’ll work with older XT shifters?

Won’t any standard front mech deal with a 42t outer?

I’ve been using 10s front mech with 9s shifter for a while and had no issues.

Fathomer; Just what I wanted to hear, thanks.

mtbtomo; the question was about cable pull, but no, most current mechs won’t do 42-32 as they need 12 teeth difference. since they introduced the extra shelf on the inner plate this is now critical. older mechs with nearly flat plates would cope with just about anything (I’m still using FD-M738 and they are much less fussy).
