How would you react if somebody you didn’t know buzzed your back tyre on a trail?

    Break wind.

If it was an accident I’d expect an apology which I’d accept. Done deliberately it’d be brake check time and a stiff arm into the bushes if they managed go around me.

Get off my bike and take ’em on. It’s the only way to deal with infractions in sport.

If they are quick enough to catch me I’ll probably know who they are.

    As in physically rubbing tyres?

Well out of order IMO. I’d tell them I’m stopping, stop safely in the middle of the trail, and ask them WTF they’re playing at?

well, there are two courses of action open to you aren’t there?

    1. pull over and let rider through
    2. don’t pull over and make rider behind follow you.

I don’t get why people find this difficult, it seems to crop up every Monday morning though.

I had a guy buzz me in a race recently, we weren’t even racing for position! He stacked it though so I wasn’t that bothered.

Racing is different IMO, unnecessary, but it happens. it’s utter bellendry to do it on the trail though.

im not sure how i would react, but it would probably be an instinctive handful of brake.
    i might do it to a mate though . . .

Used to to it to other mates all the time as kids, normally associated with trying to kick each other. As an adult, in a non-race scenario to a stranger, not a chance. Can only imagine it was by accident, but the guy was being a tool for getting so close.

In racing it happens, always accidental but if you are jostling for position in the start, or trying to get the best line in a tight bit it’s not the end of the world. If I’m not gasping for breath i tend to apologise for a full on buzz even in a race.

Why does it matter what we’d do. What did you do, guessing nothing?

Umm, I might have done this, not on purpose, but sometimes you get behind someone and they slow you up and then you kinda wait for a bit and lose concentration because you are not going flat out and are looking at the scenery and they have slowed right down for a trail obstacle that you do not find as challenging as they do and end up rubbing tyres accidently. Noramlly a wake up call to stop and wait for them to get well ahead. Sorry. 😳

Nowadays if I come up on someone fast I tend to stop and wait for a good while.

I assume when you say buzzed you mean he rubbed your rear tyre? Sorry not down with the kids now’adays.

I assume the kid didnt do it on purpose and you just let him passed when you could?

Just forget about it and enjoy your ride.

So a guy from a slower group was going faster than you?

I’d confuse them by shouting “elite rider!!” at them

Then get them to pass on the left and give their front brake lever a good tap as they pass.

Then post about it on stw

And when was the last time you raced? 😉

They were at the pointy end of the masters group so a little bit quicker yea!

If I was an internet hard man, I’d stop and rip their head off then tell everyone about it on the internet because I’m an internet hard man.

If I was a more balanced individual I’d probably look around and consider that the rider had either done it by accident or because he/she is a bell end. Either way, I’d probably ignore it – it’s hardly having any effect on me, is it?

Grab a handful of their brake. 😈

So he had caught you, and was thus faster? Onus was on him to overtake, but if I’ve caught someone up in a race I’ll likely sit as close as I can to make the most of an opportunity to pass. That may mean if the person in front suddenly brakes that I’ll hit them.

I’ve also done it in races to get people off my back wheel (when actually racing them). A little brake check at the top of a rise, they dab, you get a gap.

Again though, never done it away from racing, why would you?!

    I’d be embarrassed that he’d

    a) caught me up
    b) without me noticing

and then I’d let him through
