    Was down at Glentress yesterday and bumped into a guy who had a nice shiny Giant Reign 2 like me,only difference was,he bought his in Oz,brought it home and it still only cost him 1200quid….

    nope,was over there on holiday and he was looking to buy the bike when he came home,he looked at the price over there and packing his bike up was under weight so got it on the plane free…..

    You could be lucky or you might get done for vat and import duty
    Else where in Europe should be free of hidden charges though I think

    absolutely, shipping a bike to Oz for warranty will cost around £200 each way for a private individual.
    If you order online then you will be liable for Import Duty & VAT etc.
    Price+Shipping *15% *20%
    RRP on the reign here in Oz is £1450 – £1318 without sales tax
    add on £100 for delivery/excess baggage £1418
    add on Import Duty is £1630
    add on VAT it’s £1956

    a mere £40 saving unless you want evade tax? I thought it was generally considered bad to evade tax round here?

    Works the other way too, buying from the UK, no VAT and good exchange rate at the minute, then high shipping (if they will ship abroad, some won’t as the manufacturer excludes it), 10% GST to pay at this end.

    Works out ok for components but frames not so much.

    Don’t forget he’s eligible to reclaim the gst on leaving Aus if he wasn’t living there, that would’ve made a difference.
