    I have a new project for which I need to buy a small amount of aluminium, decent stuff, for welding to T6061 (I think!), ideally in a rectangular-tube section.

    Any ideas where to buy?

    TIA!

    I’ve used these guys in the past;

    Some of the larger trade only suppliers which won’t consider small orders can be a bit more friendly if you turn up on their doorstep with cold hard cash, speak to whoever is skulking around the back having a crafty fag!

    Local engineering supplier/local engineering shop should be able to sort you out, keep it local 😉

    I just walk next door to my mate the fabricator who is also a mine of engineering knowledge 😀

    small amounnts metalss4u is good as is just looking on ebay.

    decent lengths/weights the local suppliers with cash wins.

    the variation in prices for the stock for my new bench was wild – just mild steel – bout 100 quid from cheapest to most expensive !

    Unusually for me, I wasn’t being sarcastic: http://www.aircraftspruce.eu/

    I use them for lots of odd tubing and stuff like that.

    How much do you need? I usually just get random offcuts from ebay, costs pennies. You can’t be quite as confident about grade, though.

    Very little, prob about 1′ long, ideally 30mm x 15mm or so tube if I can find it (initial research suggests “no”)

    These guys are local to me: http://www.ppnonferrous.co.uk/

    Dunno if you’ll get the section you’re looking for, but I know they’ll sell in small quantities.

    Dont know where you are, but check out your local Metal Supermarket. They specialise in small offcuts. More likely to be imperial dimensions in this country, and in grade 6063T6 for such a small profile. 6082, uk equivalent of 6061 is a structural grade. Bigger firms like aalco, Blackburns, and rightons will want to flog youa 5mtr length minimum
