deore is budget?
would have called whatever comes 1 below alivio “budget”.
my SS £15 pedals lasted more than twice as long as the £8 pedals from somewhere else.
my shimano BB bearings at 1/5th of the price of pricey brands probably might each last more than 1/5th as long. on 2nd set now, since 2008. will let you know in about 2024 if the expenditure on shimano BB exceeded that of 1 hope/ck/etc., or if the bike is past EOL by then.Posted 4 years ago
To be fair, most real budget stuff is superb. It never ceases to amaze me how well cheap Altus 7sp stuff shifts, for instance. All the big manufacturers make OEM bars, stems etc for absolute buttons that’s 95% as good as anything with a posh name in it. The OEM stem and post on my Pitch are superb, but most people change that sort of stuff for something no better in use like Thompson.Posted 4 years ago
Anything with Shimano written on it is fine and does what it says on the tin. Budget stuff from Truvativ, FSA, Ritchey etc is ace. FSA or Cane Creek headsets anyone? Brilliant stuff.
Superstar stuff is ace. From their brake pads to their tools. All good.
Clarkes brake pads and cables, Madison Aztec pads……good kit.
Saracen make an 8sp 29er with hydraulic brakes and a usable fork for £419. Its a great bike.
That’s just a few examples off the top of my head. 🙂
