Looking at breakdown cover for our old Focus, and the cheapest on Confused (with both homestart and onward travel) are 24 quid with a 30 quid excess, whilst the RAC with similar levels are 181 quid for the year.

Now I’d expect a better level of cover from the RAC (or the AA, or the other big ones) but does anyone have any experience with the cheap ones? Any suggestions for the best balance?

We don’t do vast mileages, but we will have some big trips this year (Hull to Dorset, to Edinburgh and a few smaller ones too).

Used to be with rac for years but recently swapped to autoaid, £48 all in.  Never had to use the RAC nor auto aid so i’m not much help.

Just had my RAC renewal. £280. Spoke to my insurance company who added the same cover onto my policy for £60.
