I think the Tories will revert to type this time around and elect someone nobody expects like they did with Cameron and Major

Knowing our luck it will be Fabricant or Francois

Do you think someone will supply the handgun as well

He would shoot the messenger, drink the whisky and then blame the messenger for it.

I’d have an outside bet on my local – Alex Chalk. Mostly anonymous but well considered within the party if any of the response last night was genuine, not close enough to be truly tarnished and young, clever and thrusting enough to be acceptable to the true blue brigade.

    Wafer thin majority though . . . . .

He’s already lost 2 SOS’s Sunak and Javid.

By nature of having that job they were pretty much prevented them from voting against him because that vote would be a defacto resignation.

Not in a party confidence vote, that was a secret ballot so they could vote however they wanted.

If he’s subject to a parliamentary vote then in principal yes they have to resign first.

If there is another VOC and he looses, what happens?

Is it certain that he will automatically resign or do they have to call in the RAF who machine gun him from Sopwith Camels whilst he swings from the top of Big Ben with Carrie in his hand?

Seriously. Is he fired or can he “zombie it out”?

When he finally goes, I’m wondering what other skeletons will be brought out the closet while the press is in a feeding frenzy to ‘get it done’…from BloJo and from other.

    Has Carrie resigned yet?

    Zac apparently may know.

The tories dont seem to have anything beyond “new leadership contest and current PM isnt allowed to stand” so by default I think he stays.
Which is what happened with both Cameron and May (latter being especially relevant).

Well he now has a legacy to look back on, maybe thats enough? Even if it is for the most resignations in a 24hr period. . .

If they were a popular pm then yes. In Johnsons case I think they would say no or accidently mix things up and have him standing in Liverpool, Walton.

Waited till he and his close entourage were out the country before gathering to plan the coup de grâce

Well he’s being grilled by Chairs of the Select Committees for two hours. Would be a dramatic irony for him to resign on air in front of them.

As for Boris I can’t see him holding his seat if we get a GE any time in the foreseeable

Today I wouldn’t be surprised, thing are just moving that quickly.

1922 committee is at 5PM, that is, in fairness, the most likely time for them to put him out of his misery.

I suppose it proves that people will put up with a lying useless piece of shit PM for around 2 years these days. Pretty long time when it would have taken me two minutes.

I think it proves what we all knew that most (all?) Tory MP’s are self serving scumbags.
Huge numbers back Johnson right up to the point that it looks like it going to look irretrievably bad for them to back him and then they all jump.

I do however echo what many are saying. He won’t resign, so it’s time to see if there is a mechanism for deposing him against his will.

Should be one about 17:30 after the 1922 Committee have finished changing their Leadership rules. In that time one can assume that every resignation has cc’d the committee their letter of no confidence. A further VoNC tonight or tomorrow and done.

Some sort of malfunctioning parachute and a ride in a Lancaster, perhaps?

First test candidate after recommissioning The Human Trebuchet?

Publicity trip to the North Pole by skidoo with leaky fuel tank?

I have a letter from Suella Braverman that was sent to me earlier this year when I asked her to justify a number of her, and the Tory party’s activities on various matters, she is my local MP. In it she states that Boris has 100% of her support, and she knows he is the right person for the job under these current trying circumstances.

I am now just waiting to bring it out for her to see.

    finished changing their Leadership rules.

I predict something along the lines of :

The rules exist to prevent a small minority in the party continually harrying a leader with spurious votes. Never before have we been in the position where a majority of members have submitted letters. At this stage the rules relating to a VoNC do not apply as no further vote is required – it is clear the leader has lost the confidence of the party and he is removed from post effectively immediately, a leadership contest has been triggered and the deputy leader will take on the duties of leader until the outcome of that contest.

Sky is reporting that the 1922 will offer him the chance to resign before they change the rules.

So it’s discharge with or without “honours”, his choice.

Honours, there’s an interesting choice of word. Can we see him being elevated after all this?

He won’t resign until it’s absolutely, undeniably impossible for him to continue.

But it looks like he’s going to reach that point within the next few hours.

    What fun.

Of course we can, he “got Brexit done”. You just have to ignore that Brexit is still a complete shit show

In an seemingly off the cuff  moment in todays select committee chairs’ meeting Johnson admitted that while he was Foreign Sec he met an ex-KGB (if there can be such a thing) agent in Italy without accompaniment of FCO officials and coming straight from a NATO summit about Russia and the Salisbury poisonings.

    In any other world…

While we all get excited by this, can we remember that all of this is as a result of a lying, selfish, randy toff who is significantly responsible for the crappy place we find our nation in at the moment.
