I’d assumed that if I paired my HRM with my phone then I could use it to record HR data whilst running, since I use the Strava app on my phone for this purpose. But apparently not, I have to record it some other way and sync it later..?

    Anyone do this?

Stava removed this feature recently. You need to record to a watch or bike computer then upload the whole recording (Inc GPS data)

    Strava took away that function.

Google Fit? I think I can just use Google Fit for recording then have it sync, can’t I?

Surprised that Strava can’t do the direct track & upload, that seems counter intuitive, why force someone to use another app?!?

But thinking about it I’ve always gone via a 3rd party app

    Early setup was
HRM -> Wahoo App -> Strava

    or current setup
    HRM -> Fenix 5 -> Garmin Connect -> Strava

Yup Strava killed that functionality for some spurious reason like it was crashing for a tiny minority of users. Seemed a very odd decision rather than just fix the issue.

I go HRM > wahoo app > strava now.

Interested in this too. I downloaded a multitude of apps and couldn’t get any to work. The closest was Wahoo but it won’t sync with my HRM for some reason.

Yep same here. It used to work then they took it away.
So now on my bike if I want heart rate I use the garmin which uploads to strava, and if I’m going for a rare jog and want heart rate I use the wahoo app.
Luckily I have 2 hrm straps. A 10 years+ old garmin ant+ one that came with a now dead forerunner watch talks to the 520 plus, and a cheap decathlon Bluetooth one talks to my phone.

As has been said, Strava took away functionality so you have to record on your phone via a third party app and sync to Strava.

I had a world of trouble with this using Tickr HRM, S9 and the Wahoo app. It would record may bother until the screen was locked, then stopped recording. I knew it was a permission issue somewhere but took ages to fix. Basically you have to have location set to on at all times, not just when app is in use. I queried this with Wahoo and they said, oh, sorry, we’ll fix that at some point, keep checking the app store!

However, now the settings are all correct, it records a treat and uploads straight away.

Funnily enough I literally just started doing this.

I picked up this cheap (£36) CooSpo HRM (Ant+/Bluetooth) off Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07PNNMSGS/

I use the Endomondo (UnderArmour) app to record runs/cycles on my phone and that connected to the HRM just fine.

Seems to work okay based on the two runs I’ve done with it so far!

Not a STRAAAAAVA user but I gather that https://tapiriik.com/ can sync Endomondo to Strava.

Hey folks, bit of a PSA…..

I see that Strava have announced the reinstatement of the HRM Bluetooth feature having managed to address the issues that caused the app to crash.

Yep, I’ve moved to Strava this week after Endomondo got shutdown by UnderArmour and can confirm that the Strava app now works correctly with my Bluetooth HRM (CooSpo BTLE HRM connected to 1st-gen iPhone SE).

(PS CooSpo HRMs are currently less than £19 on Amazon!)
