Quality weekend to be out under the stars managed one on my tod and one with my daughter who absolutely loved pushing up Blea Tarn at 10.30pm at night! But seeing her face in the morning when she woke to the view was priceless

    Great photos!

Had a nice few days riding around in the forests north of Oslo. Still a fair bit of snow so spent quite a bit of time pushing the bike, but stunning weather and a big full moon to look at. Torn between bivying and tenting but glad I took the extra weight as it got below freezing at night. Only downside was sitting on my Kindle and dropping my riding gloves somewhere!

My second attempt at the Monadliath Military 200 route, this time in company of metalheart and friend David, and starting/ending in Inverness rather than Aviemore

This is Flora Macdonald trying to look ahead down the route for us

Friday night bivvy spot at the Uath Lochan. THankfully, we managed to avoid all the campervans. Great spot though.

And some pleasant woody stuff to drop us back in Inverness.

    3 days, 215km, 3,380m of ascent

I’d changed chain and cassette prior to the ride and it all seemed fine but I was getting horrendous chainsuck under load when in the granny gear. As a result, I managed almost the whole trip in 36-42 and I’m having thoughts about 50T cassettes and 1x gears.

Lack of thought also had me not applying insect repellent and not using the bug net on my bivvy bag. As a result I had to remove 21 ticks on getting back home. Plus, possibly caused by dehydration (again my fault) I’ve been throwing up all day and feel crap.

the considerably less glamorous Wisley scout camp (obviously no scouts) but the roar of the bank holiday M25 ensured a good nights sleep!

Trying out bivvying for the first time in the Pentlands.

Went pretty well. Air mattress doesn’t keep air in it, but was nice to read a book, watch bats and see some fish jumping out of the water to catch bugs.

Stopped at the chippy on the way up and a Scotmid bacon roll on the way down.

Rich – there’s a house on the left by the roadside maybe 2km before you get to Laggan that has cakes in an honesty box. There’s a big sign.

Anyway. Cath and I reccied the southern loop of the HT550 plus the bit up to Corrymony/Cannich and back from Tomich.

The big ford by Loch Lyon
    glen lyon ford

    Loch Lyon

My rear tyre was losing air and wouldn’t pump up so I had to put a tube in at Bridge of Balgie cafe. Given what happened last year on Ben Alder I was a bit worried.

The bog getting to Benalder cottage was as dry as last summer, I nearly made it dryshod!

    Ben Alder singletrack

Bivvied by Culra bothy (shut due to asbestos but we used one of the rooms to cook and eat in because of the wind) First night in my new Gatewood cape/tarp.

    Riding out from Culra

    Heading up Corrieyairak

Started to rain on Saturday evening so stopped at Corrymony bothy

Third night’s bivvy was after the climb out of Glen Nevis. Had a headwind all the way back to Tyndrum

    Top of the Devil’s Staircase

    In Glencoe

    An absolute cracking weekend.

Two day loop from Kinlochewe, there was some off-piste hike a bike to get us over to the classic Fisherfield traverse which we then followed out to Poolewe with an overnight camp at Loch na Sealga. The Infamous River Crossing was only ankle deep. There were sigificant wildfires burning themselves out up the hillsides around Beinn Dearg and Gleann na Muice which had already blackened wide swathes around the trail through that area.

The Tollie path for dessert was an absolute hoot on enduro bikes (but I can see why it got deleted from the HT550!)
