We have an unscheduled stop over just south of Oswestry and need to fill a day. Is there good riding? There is a mountain bike centre close by on the map but it seems they have shut.

Cheers, but I think they are bit far to cycle. Probably 10-20 mile round trip.

Hmm, couple of circuits of the candy woods, then over to llyncllys quarry? but you will probably need some local knowledge to get the best out of it, or LLechrydau woods, or otherwise, “the pheasant track” in Glyn Ceiriog, Eastridge is pretty good, but still about 30 min drive from Oswestry, or Llandegla as mentioned above, about 20 mins drive.

try the Criggion— its half eaten with quarrying, but otherwise somewhere to explore, the lanes around there are great, one of the last remaining old skool pubs– is The Original Ball in the hamlet of Ball– if you like non pretentious 300 year old local hostelry,– no grub but best beer in the district– long mynd is a good area, but a good hour away on bike.
