Does anyone have a good B&B recommendations near to BPW please? We used to stay at The Grange which was great but no longer open and I’m struggle to find anywhere similar. Would prefer not to stay in the Premier Inn if possible.

Go upmarket – the travelodge is very close to the trails.

+1 for travelodge. It’s 10 mins away and they let you take bikes in rooms.

Near a good Indian restaurant too.

There are a couple of options in Abercanaid. The Colliers arms have rooms and a separate house and there is also a Miners cottage renovated to cater for MTBers on AirBnB.

We stayed in the Castle Hotel in Merthyr, basic and provided a room to lock our bikes

I keep seeing one advertising on FB. Let me see if I can find the details.

    Edit:

    Twin Trails B&B

    Ty Bara Abercanaid Airbnb

    Both on FB.

We stay in the Premier inn in Abergavenny.

Clean bikes in the room, nice little town with plenty of food choice, nice Italian in the middle,

    Only half an hour away

Dirt Farm is about 5 mins up the road as well

Yeah we always end up staying somewhere over that way, opens up Dirt Farm and the FOD uplift with reasonably easy drives for em all, and it’s just much nicer.

We’ve stayed at Twin Trails a couple of times. It’s five minutes from BPW, good  few takeaways and pubs close by. All the cleaning stuff you need and a patio to wash the bikes on. Use of a tumble dryer for your kit and you keep the bikes in the front room. Cheap too

I’ve always stayed at the Travelodge when I’ve gone, it’s fine if you’re not a snob and just want somewhere cheap to sleep and keep the bike safe inside.

Me and my boy used to stay at the Premier Inn, which was ok, but now he’s a grown up, we snobs now and book AirBnBs. Not gone wrong, just finding one close and available, but this was probably the best due to the awesome garage

Why not stay at one of the best pubs in the area (mmmm….pub) about 15 minute drive away down the dual carriageway https://www.gwaelodygarthinn.co.uk/sleep-at-the-gwaelod-y-garth

We always stay at the Premier Inn over the road and pedal in from there. Cheap and bikes in rooms but I’ve got to admit, the food is absolutely terrible. Even the breakfasts seem to be awful for a Premier Inn. Planning a potential trip there in May with the kids so may stay elsewhere and just have a 20/30 min drive in…

    I’ve stayed here the past 3 times – http://stationhousemerthyrtydfil.co.uk/

Very cool old police station with garage, hose and secure lock up. Nice kitchen lounge area with washing machines etc. 2 minute drive from BPW! Prices always seemed good to me

The Gwaelod is my local and it’s absolutely 10/10. The food is good, the beer is great, not stayed there because I live 5 mins away.

Added bonus – there’s some absolutely outstanding riding right behind the pub that runs well all year round, so if you come up the night before you can get some lovely off-piste laps in too. https://www.trailforks.com/region/coed-y-gedrys-65378/

Oh. I thought this was going to be a rant about one of those overweight ebikers you hear about.

    Carry on.

I stay at the Premier Inn because it’s seconds away from BPW and I’m not precious. Black out curtains, big comfy bed and a powerful shower, every time. Consistency is worth a lot given how much crappy accommodation is around.

For me it’s a night away from the Mrs and a toddler so it’s heavenly.

    Breakfast isn’t great.

I got a warning on here for suggesting some e-bike riders might be carrying a bit of extra timber. Even though it’s a stone cold, observable, factoid.

Breakfast is great at BPW though… eat there!

I think I’ve stayed in all the independent hotels in Merthyr, and I now pretty much exclusively use either the Travelodge or the Prem. As others have said, clean, tidy, inexpensive, comfy rooms, both have food and booze next door, minutes from BPW, and they’re happy for you to bring your clean bike to your room.

Food at BPW had gone right down the pan when we went last year. Limited choice and stupid expensive. Will be taking sarnies next time.

At 5,9″, 105kgs and not a battery in sight, I can definitely state that its not just e-bikers who are fatties!!

The Roost in Merthyr, if the weather is working. Basic but very cosy cabins, good if a group, able to ride to the trails in the morning. Washing facilities and secure bike storage.

Thanks for all the suggestions, looking at places nearby to BPW. Also thanks for the heads up on the food.

It seemed very variable when I visited for a couple of days last year. On the Thursday we had breakfast there, limited choice and expensive, and lunch, decent choice but very slow. On the Friday we cooked breakfast at the air b&b, partially for the cost, but also so we could get changed there and use the loo rather then the lacking facilities at BPW. Lunch at BPW was decent and quick with about twice the staff on.

We stayed at https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/40284303 which was comfortable and cheaper than a shared room for 2 at the premier inn. The local pubs were at bit odd but friendly enough and the local takeaways were fine. We’d considered riding in but decided the hill was unnecessary and the car was a handy place to leave spares.

Well, I’ve got an ebike myself. Completely tongue in cheek. Meh. I was carrying a bit of extra timber pre-eeb too, to be fair. 🙂

You may well find that people’s aversion to TL and PI is actually that they want to put money into local businesses rather than FTSE 100 conglomerates.

We stayed in Cardiff , its not too far to drive to BPW.
