  • "Bike of the Decade" (2000-2010) – your nominations please!

As we draw to the close of the naughties, I thought it might be a fun thing to try and reach a consensus on the stand-out ‘Bike of the Decade’, if such a thing exists… I guess it depends on the criteria you set: most sold? most technologically advanced? Longest continous model? Best ride/fun? Best looking? And more besides no doubt! Let the debate begin!

I’d like to nominate the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC personally, though I’ve never actually owned one, somewhat strangely!

A bike keeping it’s incarnation for the majority of the decade, then that would have to be the Merida lrs – first full suss to win XC world championship race.

Not really a bike though, it must be getting on for 10 substantially different ones.

Inbred, over the Soul because of cost. Model T of mountain biking.

I’d have to agree with the op, I wouldn’t want one but it’s a great bike and has been around for long enough.

GT I-Drive, came out in 1999 and has remained pretty much the same until now. I don’t think any other bikes have shown less ‘progress’ over the decade, much to their credit.

Last time I rode mine, exactly a year ago, it bucked me off into a rock and ruined my winter, which is a big mark against it!

On one for bike of the decade? A steel tubed heavy traditional frame?

    Are you serious?

Didn’t the Inbred pave the way for the long travel hardtail?

Spesh Enduro probably for worldwide as it seemed to kick off the whole trail bike phenomomonomomen.

For the UK, either 5 or the Inbred.

5- Capability, staying with or ahead of much larger competitors.
Inbred- Where was this decent handling, cheap, pile o pig iron when I was growing up?

Not really, lighter better handling long travel forks did that.

obviously, there have been some excelent incarntions over the last decade, but from the bikes i’ve owned during that period, i’d go for the steel 456.

not the lightest or fanciest bike ive had the pleasure of, but definitely the most fun 😀

…should never have got rid 🙁

No, that honour goes to the Cove Stiffee and the Santa Cruz Cameleon (sp?)

My vote goes for to the Stiffee.

I own a Stumpy and they are a good ride but I always admired this….

Perhaps the humble Pitch could be a contender? The 2009 Pro caused such fever pitch at that price point you couldn’t get one for love nor money.
