I’m looking to insure both my bikes, previously the older one was covered under the home contents, but I’ve now got a Cervelo P5, value of £10,000, other bike is a Boardman Air 9.8.
So I’m now looking for cover of approx £13,000.
Currently I’ve only found Cycle Guard willing to cover the P5 wanting a staggering £923!!

Please can anyone offer any suggestions of other companies…

I need to have it cover triathlon events, left in transition etc, and worldwide when I race Ironman events.

Try Royal Sun Alliance. They didn’t bat an eyelid when they paid for my race bike recently (£4k). Not cheap.

Also British Cycling will also cover racing, but not cheap either.

    John Lewis.

Their policy headlines state max individual cycle value of £5k and total of £15k (for all bikes owned) but when I had one over £5k they covered it under the “specified items” clause. No issues at all with them.

Think my entire policy (House & Premium contents) costs about £550pa

Pedal cover your people to go to for that I would say they do tri specific stuff (Home insurance)

I’ve had to knock it on the head as about to head to europe for a few months so will be homeless but will be going with Bikmo+ as recommended on here to cover the bikes.

Home insurance. Separate insurance is a rip off

This is who I’m with, full international travel and racing cover, max excess on the bikes is $500 for carbon/racing

Any insurance that doesn’t do house insurance? I don’t need the house part but do need the bike part…

Esure proved surprisingly good value for insurancing my collection of lower priced items.

It’ll be cheaper to insure an imaginary house!

Royal Sun Alliance are now RSA, More Than being their customer facing business. John Lewis is also underwritten by RSA.

Is that not illegal? I’m in rented accommodation and that is insured…so just need the bike insurance.

Most will do contents for all your other possessions too.

Pedalcover is well worth a call. They organise cover away from the home of a monetary value. So all your bikes, kit personal belongings are covered without having to list them. Triathlon and sportif covered within this too.
Biggest bonus of all is getting to deal with a real person again after too many years of insurance claims handlers and call centres.
Darren at Pedalcover is a joy to deal with and a keen cyclist too

are you confusing “buildings” and “contents” insurance?

A typical homeonwer policy will be for both, but you can get them separate – eg if you are in a rented house the landlord should have the buildings insured or a leasehold block of flats will normally have a joint policy. This just coveres the building itself. It is then up to the person living in the property to get separate contents cover.

Cool…hadn’t realised you could get just contents (owned my home for last 20 years so had always done both but hadn’t clocked you could separate them)…so I’ll go check that, ta.

I’m not aware of any company that won’t just cover contents if that’s what you want!

Do any of these cover you if you break your bike off road?
Cos Cycleguard paid out when I crashed mine.

If you get accidental damage cover then yes, they will.

Bike insurance NOT part of more general cover doesn’t really add up for the insurer so they will always make it difficult for you to claim.
Also beware that that companies offering bike specific cover are very active in web marketing, social media type advocacy meaning you’ll have all sorts popping up saying such and such policy is wonderful.

Are you saying posters on this thread are shills being paid by insurance companies? If so name and shame/report them to the mods.

lol they paid for a bike, that was enough for me 😀
Thanks njee – cycleguard did it with surprisingly little hassle, once the bike shop wrote to say it wasn’t safe to ride. I hope others would be similar.

    (That’ll be £10, ta 🙂

+1 for Bikmo plus – insured both my bikes for less than the home insurance company wanted and the coverage seems much much better.

    Another +1 for Bikmo+

Really helpful on the phone and pretty reasonable. We were struggling for cover at the time (we were a little bit transient, no house/contents to insure and were heading overseas for a while) and they almost seemed too good to be true.

edit – I notice no one else has leapt on this but I (and maybe you??) get a little bit of credit to spend if you refer a friend to bikmo plus. If you want a referral email me (email in profile) and I’ll send you a link 🙂 or use the referral code xvV0gQU

    +John Lewis Specialist here.

They covered all our 7 bikes and the canoes and kayaks at no extra cost (despite initial policy saying ‘no watercraft’, I have letter and cover note that does cover human powered craft).

Total for the year is under £400.

Pedalcover was good cover at same cost, but they could not insure the boats.

Specialist bike cover companies were silly money.
