- Bike-friendly accomodation for 4, Merthyr/Abergavannyish?
For the last few years we’ve done a week or so in Wales staying at Rose Cottege in Cymer, because it’s right on top of Afan… But last year we rode at FOD, BPW, BMCC, and just one day at Afan so while we like the accomodation a lot, it’s in the wrong place.
Soooo, any suggestions for a self catered cottage or lodge that’ll comfortably sleep 4 (twin rooms are OK but singles better), but more Merthyr/Abergavanny way? We’re old and boring so no need for much nightlife, something reasonably local for eating options and a couple of pints is about all we need… Oh and nothing too fancy, we’re not on a shoestring but we’d rather keep it cheapish

Travel lodge in Merthyr. Cheap, bike friendly, near a pub. Job jobbed.

Secure bike storage
There is a pub at the end of the street, Premier Inn across the railway line for food and it’s easy to ride into BPW from there.
Oh and it has a pizza oven in the garden 😉
This would suit. Very close to the BMCC (1/2 mile) and a few good places to eat within a few miles. Disclaimer is that I know the owners and we tend to recommend their B&B for visitors we are unable to accommodate. They always seem very impressed. If not ideal then there are plent of other choices on that website that may suit.

As one of the old and boring people involved, places like Travelodges aren’t so great for more than a night or two, as you are stuck with eating out and are lacking a lounge area for just us. Self catering cottages work better for medium length stays I reckon.
Also we rode twice at Afan last year. 🙂Posted 2 years ago
