Her Ladyship “suggested” that I fettle the commuter bike in the kitchen, tonight, as “it’ll be really cold in the garage”! 😮

I think the words “brake”, “no” and “rear” might have had something to do with it.

Anyone else been allowed this luxury? 🙂

i just do it anyway whilst she hoovers, washes the dishes and irons the clothes. Then i slip on my mankini, relax on my lazyboy and watch some porn!!

The kitchen?, nah…. i prefer my living room as it’s perfect for the job, got my stove, music, table for my tool box and i’m not fussed if oil or owt gets spilled as it’s just the bare floorboards since i had to remove the carpet a few yrs ago ( i dropped an entire sump full of oil on it from an old bike engine) and i’ve not got round to doing anything about the floor it as i haven’t got spare cash. You need home comforts to do a proper job.

Regreased bottom bracket and hub bearings in the lounge the other day, as I needed to ‘dry the bearings out’ after degreasing them in front of the open fire. 😉
And she didnt mumble as was in the kitchen doing the ironing while cooking dinner !!
    Result !!

I thought I was on my own fettling in the lounge. Washed the bike today, and put it in the lounge to dry before fettling this evening!

Kitchen always wins over living room – quicker access to essentials (snacks and beers) 😀

Mine are kept in the cellar and get worked on in there. I can even give them a “dry wash” if I’ve not had time to get the hosepipe on them. There are no distractions and time passes at a different rate, “yes that really is the time”.

Yep, especially at this time of year.

Only matrimonial conflict I’ve faced was when I shot a syringe full of grease through air and out onto the dining room carpet.

That was a dark day 😯

When I lived in that London I had a flat on the third floor of a building, so used to wash my bike in the bath.

Bleeding brakes strictly in the kitchen. Other fettling duties in the kid’s playroom. So I can watch TV.

Kitchen/diningroom is my entire downstairs. PC lives there too, which is handy for hitting refresh on STW/sH and checking Park Tools webby.
    Basically it’s a bike workshop 🙂

Although I did start building one in living room once.

Remember seeing pics of a bike in the bath on the German forum. Yup. It was a girl washing the bike in the shower 🙂

Cleaned a few components in the dishwasher last weekend. Only request was that none of the normal stuff was in the same wash!! 🙂

Currently have 1 complete bike, 1 donor bike and one build living in the spare room, that’s where they live and they’re normally filthy! Currently got the rear hub in pieces on the carpet and bled the brakes the other day without getting out of my pj’s.

The joys of living on your own… 😉

I don’t have a garage and love the taste of GT85 in my dinner, so kitchen it is. 😀

Built half of my new trance in the ‘posh’ lounge, which only gets used on special occasions (building a new bike being one of them). Also managed to take apart both hardtails in the kitchen, prior to a US bike holiday. Wife remained relatively relaxed about it, but I am usually too under the thumb to bring the bikes inside.

Thats why they tile kitchen floors! Is there any where else to do bike maintenance? A quick wipe round with Muc Off afterwards does the trick!

Dining room (carpeted) for me until recently 🙂 And that included last minute brake bleeding. I dropped a litre of varnish over it about 2 weeks before we were due to sell so I learnt to fit carpets 🙂

P.S Chain degreaser bleaches lino, so do not spray on chain and then freewheel the cranks back and therefore flicking it across the floor.

I do all my ‘usual’ maintenance in the Workshop @ work. That way I’m nice and warm, getting paid and have all the tools (including de-greaser/wipes) etc that I could ever need. Also means that when shiny new parts arrive I get them delivered to work and they can go on without the other half even knowing they exist 😆

Kitchens are good workshops., the dishwasher is great for cleaning mechs etc, beer in the fridge, munchie cupboard to and.

I used to use the kitchen, but have now taken over the conservatory as my bike room. Got an electric heater in there, plus that’s where the beer is!

I cant do that as the road bike on the turbo trainer is permanately in there so although I have a double garage to tinker, its warmer in the house. 😆

Annoyingly, my kitchen isn’t really big enough:

My workstand and toolchest (metal roller drawers, 4ft tall) are permanent bits of furniture in my living room. As are my 3 bikes. It’s my only option as I’m in a 1 bed flat. Not as awesome as it sounds.
