Perhaps the issue is that these “debates” often, quickly, become very polarized and that what is really needed is not media soundbite comments from prominent cyclists, cycling groups or motoring groups…
But a proper assessment of the issues and potential measures to address them, carried out by a dispassionate third party, someone without an axe to grind… Dare I say it a study… But one focussed on cycling accident reduction and required to give positive recommendations for measures aimed at achieving this.
Rather than another study aimed at debunking/proving that something doesn’t have a positive impact or apportioning blame to one particular group…
