So my old spare specs aren’t cutting it on the bike as I get a wee bit faster on the bike and I reckon I need to get some new more robust bicycle glasses.

Been looking online at some specs, like the Tifosi duro and after querying whether each of my selection can be re-glazed to my prescription, I’ve been told ‘no, won’t work well with your +5 prescription’.

So has anyone here had any experience with getting biking glasses with a high prescription ? As going through all the options could take bl**dy ages and I’d like to sort some out asap.

    Can anyone help ?

Rudy Project Maya will take that prescription – mine is -11.
I am told that Adidas frames should do.
    Also Rupp+Hubrach.
When I was Italy recently I was told that Alpina shields will glaze with high prescriptions as well.

Rudy Project Rydon with Rx insert takes my +5 prescription. Love mine and use them for road and off road. The photochromatic lenses always seems just right to me. I had mine glazed with very high refractive index glass. there is distortion, but the brain adapts pretty fast.

I’ve not looked at single glazing for the same reasons as you – too high prescription.

Same as TiRed but with Rudy Project Noyz. Only problem is fogging when riding off road. I tend to use contacts for those days.

I have some Adidas Evil Eye Pro glasses with a prescription insert to -6.5 in one eye and -7 in the other with astigmatism of 1.85 in each eye. I’m very short sighted.

They work very well with two caveats: my eyelashes sometimes brush the inside of the lens, leaving a greasy mark that I have to clean off. Also, they fog up when I stop, but are fine when moving. I think the first problem could be solved by glazing them with a high index lens, rather than a standard prescription.

I tried contact lenses but I have a very strong blink reaction that I could never get rid of. Putting in / taking out the lenses could take 1/2 an hour!

I’ve been meaning to get some prescription riding glasses for a long time now. Is this the sort of thing people tend to do online, do I need to find a specialist sports shop (my LBS doesn’t do glasses at all), or can I buy some glasses from CRC and rock up to Specsavers to get the prescription bit?

Unsure of how well online specification of my prescription would translate to some Adidas, Rudy Project or Oakley* stuff I had my most recent prescription in some Rx insert type i828s. Sure they’re not ‘the coolest’ but they come with interchangeable lenses – clear, dark and amber.

Sweaty and foggy on hot and humid days. All good otherwise and when moving.

*If anyone has any positive feedback on these I’d be keen to know. I’m 6.5 & 7.0 if that helps.

Thanks guys, some options to look at there, the Rudys and Adidas (which for some reason surprises me)

But am I right here in that RX inserts are the way to go ?

So for the larger (blinder) prescription getting the main lense glazed isn’t really an option unless I fancy blurry distorted vision ?

Bit of a PITA but hey ho.

High plus and minus prescriptions can be hard in ‘wrap’ frames leading to thick lenses and distortion. Inserts negate this issue as they’re only a small lens but that goes with a limited field.

Best option would be contact lenses and plano [no power] riding spex, then you can pick whatever frame you want.
