    on a Friday afternoon/early evening

is the M62-A1 gonna be hell?

I’d be tempted to go M65, Skipton, Harrogate, Ripon, A1. Less miles at least.

A666 north through Darwen, which will be the worst bit. Then M65 east and Skipton, Harrogate, Ripon. Plenty of nice pubs en route to stop for supper; might as well enjoy the drive.

End of the 65 is horrible in rush hour, but it”s by far the nicest route.
62/A1 is where bad people go when they die.

+1 on the M61/M6/A685/A66 route, or if you want a scenic route, come off the M6 earlier and take the A684 and have fish and chips in Hawes. That may be caravan hell on a nice Friday in June though, the A66 has some dual- carriageway sections.
