As said, heading up Wednesday morning and not really done anything on the way for a long time so it’s either afternoon evening in the lakes or something on the way, any suggestions?

Afternoon/evening in the Lakes cos it’s the best place at the best time.

The obvious one is Cannock, not far from the M6 but just get straight up the road lakes. What I do for a quick spin if arriving late is the lonscale fell route or a couple of spins round whinlatter.

Honestly cannock have they made anything worth riding yet? Think it’s going to be south lakes…

    Nan Bield from Staveley.
Only a short route and only 15 mins from M6.
Only place worth a detour would be Calderdale, but if you’re heading to Lakes anyway, then I’d just go straight there to be honest.

Go and have a play on Farleton Knott if you’ve never been – that big lump of limestone east of J36 and you can ride round and round and up and down till you’re bored or tired.

SOuth Lakes, Chapel house wood just off the 590 – there a a couple of lines just off the main bridleway descent for a bit of brarrpp or off over the back for more mellow evening jaunt and pint in the masons. Easily lose an hour or two.

(probably not the BEST ride but good for an hour blowing away the cobwebs after a long drive)

@scuttler As kids we used to find slabs of stone and surf down the front face of Farleton Knott – quite scary!

There’s a ride based on Whitbarrow Scar in one of the guidebooks that holds up well throughout the year – we did it last new year’s eve.

Cheers Rich, maybe tempting but the fitness is a little off and still sussing out the wrist. Are you more or less bonkers than the Keswick Tuesday night?
