One of my son’s played for Southampton (FC) for a bit and their nutritionists recommended Nesquick chocolate milkshake (because it contains magnesium amonst other things).

Am I supposed to beat my chest and say how I down 20 pints post ride to make me look like a ‘real man’?

Who mentioned 20 pints? I suppose the mention of beer reduces the hand wringers to stereotypical knee jerk reactions about binge drinking, wife beating, prolls?

Decent ale and a packet of peanuts, FWIW.

Morning ride, some sort of quantity of milk or milkshake, followed by an espresso or if it’s really cold and wet a mug of tea. Not exactly an exact science though so often varies.
Afternoon or evening ride, a nice pint of beer, something not too heavy or dark.

Stella. This is also my pre ride carb load. On a long day it is my mid ride energy drink.

This, with a small teaspoon of glutamine. Been using this stuff for a few years, before after, rides:no stiffness the next day,and good to go again.

Or you can get the 2.5kg from Amazon, lasts for ever.

I’m somewhat concerned by all the serious answers on here.

Leisurely ride with mates – proper ale and salted fat laden nibbles.

More serious faster/hillier rides, then I’ll worry about proteins and carbs.

Is strawberry Nesquik an acceptable substitute for chocolate? It’s my post-ride craving.

    Milk.

Like the dry powdered version you can buy branded as “recovery drink” but only 60p a pint, which in motorway service stations is considerably cheaper than water. Go figure.
