Now that I pretty much only use Sonos I might as well sell my Naim CDi CD player and Onix BWD-1 FM tuner. These were top end bits of kit when I bought them about 20 years ago, and I imagine might well be of interest to a hifi buff. Rather than eBay them I’d like to sell them on a proper hifi website so is there some sort of hifitrackworld I should aim for?

New members require 50 or more posts and to have been a member of the site for 90 days before they can post an advertisement in the classifieds area. This is to ensure the site does not become a easy target for scammers.

Seems pretty fair (might not be a bad idea on here!) but it’s unlikely to work for me – apart from anything else they’ll probably drum me out of town for using Sonos 🙂

Typically you’d get a higher price on Ebay for a bit of Naim kit than on Pink Fish.

There are a lot of folks on PFM still using vinyl and CD’s but also plenty using streaming so no real likelyhood of getting saved for being a Sonus owner.

centralscrutinizer – fair comment, but that really wasn’t what I was trying to do. I did consider an ad in the classifieds, but this stuff is pretty niche so I reckon it’s better on a hi-fi site.

cynic-al – the Naim CD player would be okay on eBay, but the tuner is pretty unusual and I don’t want it to fail to sell, with fees to pay, because it just looks like a basic old tuner. But perhaps I should just give it a go.

I’d say lost folk buying on fora will also look on eBay.

Can’t remember re fees, but you can sell BIN for 30 days and invite offers.

Yes – but then if it doesn’t sell you still have to pay the fees. But I just need to work out how I want to run the trade-off… I’m not using this stuff so I might as well sell it on!

I had a NAIM CD player that went quickly, and for more than I wanted for it too, on eBay. Guy coughed up quickly for it, but wouldn’t come and collect. I ended up taking it to him in the end.

An Onix tuner the same as yours went for over £300 on eBay in December.

Sell through the specialist hifi press if you like, but you’ll only be restricting your market. Those buyers search on eBay as well 😉

I’m no eBay fanboy but it is a very liquid marketplace. If you list your item as a 99p auction you absolutely will find out what it is worth. Which will be, presuming all is present, correct and in good condition, and you offer postage, about £300 with a PSU, and considerably less without.

You know eBay has changed its rules on this now? You can list stuff with any starting price you want and there’s no fee (reserve prices might be different, but you don’t want to fanny around with those anyway, they’ll only annoy people).

Naim CDI is a classic. In good condition it will sell easily and for a good price

As someone who sold about £10k worth of hifi kit on eBay, I would say eBay. I netted about 70% of the price I paid for it.

Other sites will have cheaper fees but eBay will get you the highest price.

I buy and sell all my Naim kit through Ebay except a CDX I bought on Pink fish for a bargain £425. Sold the CD3 it replaced for £100 less than that on Ebay.

Think of your target demographic, if it’s anything like my father, he’s not searching on ebay for anything, but he does read hifiworld etc… And he’s not a dealer 🙂

Wow – many thanks everyone. My tuner does have a power supply so that sounds positive! I’d better dig the boxes out of the loft and get listing! I’ve put a couple of small things on there this evening to get myself back into the swing of things – it’s strangely addictive once you start…
