Trying to sell my Rolex watch, bought new by my late father in '98

I rarely wear a watch and have decided I would rather sell it and buy a nice guitar, It does have some sentimental value, but would rather use the money for something that I'll actually use.

It's a current model that sells for about £5K. I would hope to get in the region of £2K

Anywhere I could get decent money for it? Don't mind selling it, but don't want to give it away.

If you sell it, you'll regret it.

No son or daughter to pass it on to?

Depends on how wealthy you are – why keep it if you could use the money for something useful? I don't see the point in watches though.

daughters. It's not really their style. They never met their Grandfather so wouldn't mean much to them I reckon. I have other things that have more sentimental value

Don't sell it, just look after it for the next generation to sell or is that being cynical.

there are several watch forums that have classifieds, but most have a minimum post rule for the classifieds, where unlike STW you need a minimum of 50 / 100 etc posts before you can post in the classifieds.

Old rolexs vary in value depending on model and condition, full papers/reciept/box etc, but you may find it's worth quite a bit if a desirable model in very good condition. When selling mention things like recent services as services by Rolex can cost £100s and affect the sale value significantly.

There are many places on the web where that would sell I'd suggest watchuseek as a starting point. There are several shops in central London who specialise in buying Rolex but wont give you a great price.

Put "used Rolex" into Google and it will come up with a number of places that buy S/H watches. That's a standard Oyster Perpetual Datejust so relatively common, but worth £1000 to ££1500 if in good condition with papers and box.

Have a look on http://www.tz-uk and gauge the price, even have a look on ebay but do not sell to a dealer, sell it private only if you really have to.
