I’ve lost my patience with my current track pump which is useless for anything other than propping the garage door open so wondered if anyone out there can recommend a replacement?

The Lezyne ones look nice but not sure how good they actually are? SKS Rennkommpressor looks to be one of the more expensive ones about but that might not be guarantee of quality…

I don’t know about “best” but my Topeak Joeblow has a stupid name and hasn’t skipped a beat.

Rennkommpressors stocked by Decathlon now – meant to pick one up last week but got distracted by the plastic horse.

If the Lezyne floorpumps are as badly designed and made as the minipumps, I’d steer clear.

I have a Lezyne one. Got the HP roadie version as the HV MTB version struggled to get up to roadie pressures. Just takes a few more strokes to get the volume in an MTB tyre.

Been very reliable over the last two years.

Seems to do my mtb and road nicely. Don’t seem to have an issue with the valve like others have.

Have a look at the Specialized ones. Been using one for about six years now – no problems.

Depends a bit on whether you want it for MTB or road. Rennkompressors are classic but pretty pish for MTB. I’ve had a cheap Blackburn one for years that finally exploded a couple of months ago. The Lezyne Dirt Drive that replaces it is spectacular in comparison, but time will tel if it’s reliable.

Joe blow here, had it donkeys & keep it going with spare from sjs cycles, wouldn’t suggest it’s the best but damned good value

I’m doing a project with Silca (watch this space) had a good look at one yesterday (took it to pieces). Very nice, should have one tomorrow. Joe Blow and an airshot is a pretty robust combination.

I’ve had my SKS Rennkommpressor for over 10 years now. It looks very tatty but still works perfectly.

I have a Lezyne – it’s a good pump but the screw on head drives me potty. I have an old specialized one well over 10 yrs old that feels dreadful but still works well.

Bonty supercharger here. Plenty of metal in it’s construction, nice long hose and seems fine with both MTB and road tyres.

SKS rennkompressor just works and if you ever need spares e-mail them and they send them out gratis – hope style

i know this because i somehow contrived to cut through my pump rubber housing lead thingy leaving it to close to the turbo trainer – also sent me some mudguard bits free.

I like my Airtowers. Well… They’re plasticky and the grips fall off and the chuck wore out on one so I had to replace it. But! They shift a lot of air, very fast. Damn nearly twice as much as my Joe Blow Sport. That’s basically the most important thing for a mountain bike pump and I’ve not found anything else to match it. The Joe Blow Mountain maybe but I found it harder to actually use.

I had a metal specialised one for years, the piston eventually wore out but it had done it’s fair share. I couldn’t seem to get a replacement valve as the newer ones are all fatter now.
Replaced it with a park tools ptf5, absolute rubbish. The metal barrel screws into a plastic base which dos not create an airtight joint, unless you stand on the dial and lean it a certain angle. The folding foot pegs fall off when you look at them, the dial ‘glass’ fractured from twisting stress, the shrader valve head won’t disconnect from the bike until you’ve lost half your air. And trying to get a road bike tyre to more than 80 is a struggle.
Definetly want a metal based and metal barrel next time.

The Specialized one I got with my bike 6 years ago is still going strong and works well on Presta and Schrader. Not sure which exact model it is.

I had a Joeblow for ages – a long time – had new gauge, and also rebuilt it but eventually it was just knackered. Got a Speicalized one – one up from basic – from LBS not that long ago and it’s a revelation. Very good.

The Silca one is good but is quite a pain to swap between valves, something the Joeblow and the Specialized had no trouble with.

It’s one of those things that you can spend an absolute shed load on if you want. I bought one of these (well, the old model) about 8 years ago and it still works absolutely perfectly. The gauge is pretty accurate (I checked it against a digital pressure gauge I have), it feels pretty solid and the hose is a reasonable length. I keep thinking I should replace it with something else but have yet to find a compelling reason to do so.

joe blows are great once you add a blanking plate (cut up sim card surrounds work well) behind the head bezel on the side you’re not using.

Not quite. Lost mine in a move and replaced it with a Joe Blow. Chuck on the Silca is not as good as the Topeak Smarthead.

I liked my rennkompressor so much, i bought another one. 😐

Some of the heads on the latest ones are a bit wobbly. But spares are cheap and plentiful. And it’s easy to use an alternative, none sks, head.

And FWIW, between my 1980s silca packing in after 15 or 20 years use and getting the first rennkompressor, we destroyed a series of “top end” pumps from blackburn, topeak and specialized. None lasted more than a month.
The first renn just had a service after 6 or 7 years use. Took 20 minutes. One washer in the head was the only replacement part needed.

My Topeak is about 20 psi out on the guage. It feels like the handle is going to snap everytime I use it. Not been impressed to be honest. It’s now in the back of car for the odd topup of the car tyres instead of a footpump.

Lezyne head didn’t seem to work on dome of my tubes strangely, and became just a pain to screw on and off.
