- Best 650b second hand frame £1000 or under…..GO
Looking into changing over from my 2012 meta am to 650b. What decent frames out there could I pick up second hand for around £1000?
Not really much of a bike mechanic myself, any ideas what I can use from my meta in the 650b?
Obviously bars, stem, seat etc. Brakes?

I guess they might be a bit rare s/h, but there are a few bikes which can do both 26 and 650b – might be worth a look.
Banshee Spitfire or Rune
Yes, brakes, transmission, etc everything except rims/tyres. Even the forks might be possible – search the internet for info on your specific forks.Posted 4 years agocookeaaSubscriber
Early adoption on the Cheap? Won’t happen…
If your meta is still working I’d just keep riding it for a while and save for a whole new bike, to make the switch to 650b you’ll have to chop in most of the expensive bits: Frame, Fork, wheels…
Its not really worth it IMO as you could well end up with a “worse” bike, with slightly bigger wheels and be £1K out of pocket…
You would be better to save up and buy a new 650b bike in a few months time when the 2015 Year models are coming out and the first lot of 2014 – 650b bikes are being discounted, any bits like Bars/Stem/Droppers etc you might want to transfer over, and you have a complete 26″ Meta to flog on and recover some of the outlay…
As a marketing thing 650b is really intended to flog whole bikes (slightly cynically speaking), it’s not really targeted at the “Incremental Upgrader” (well not just yet anyway)…Posted 4 years agoAlexSimonSubscriber

I have 2012 fox 36 forks, any idea if they can be used?Posted 4 years ago
There are plenty of people who do.
Specific rim/tyre choice would have to be considered.
Likely to be about a 1/4 of an inch clearance on the bridge, then you’d have to let all the air out the forks and see if you have clearance from the crown.
I have absolutely no idea whether this will effect anything or is acceptable though.rickonSubscriber
If I were going 650b, and I will be not, I’d be buying a full bike. It’s just a PITA.
New wheels, new tyres, new fork, new spare tubes. It all adds up. Frame only means that you’ll need those things, so it quickly becomes expensive due to the lack of spares about in the market.
Personally, I’d wait another 6 months and see if there are some of this years’ frames discounted. CRC usually have a blow out deal from Commencal frames in October -> December, so the Meta AM 650b will possibly be discounted then.
Parts wise, as an idea you can reuse…
Shifters, Rear Mech, Chainset, Cassette, Bars, Stem, Brakes, Saddle, grips, pedals.
What you might not be able to reuse: Chain (as the chainstays may be too long), Seatpost, Seatclamp, BB (external or pressfit), Fork, Wheels, Tyres.Posted 4 years ago
