Just wondering what others do if anything ?

If we’re doing a big weekend away i’ll take anything and everything from BB tools, chain whips, Bearing kits, bleed kits, airshot, tyres, etc etc.

But they’re basically just all stuffed into a kids toy boy or two…

I’d like them a little more organised….

What do you have/take ?

I do go a little extreme and take my lad a 2nd bike i admit… just in case.

Big weekend or race – a big toolbox and a tyre bag with airshot/sealant + a separate toolbox of spares. The main toolbox is a stanley fatmax with good sliding trays for visibility.

The alternative is a minimal approach with basic tools in a tool roll. My wife prefers the tool roll to my ‘everything, just in case’ approach.

Tool roll and a shallow Really Useful box for ease of finding everything. Tool roll in the box and then laid out upon it if needed.

Tool roll, but I’ve got a big Magma one that can swallow pretty much everything.

As @YoKaiser says above, really useful box. They do a 9 litre one that comes with a top divider insert that lifts out. You can put big stuff like cables, disk rotors or a cassette in the bottom and little fiddly bits in the insert.

All of that lives in a plastic crate with an airshot, tyres and other assorted bigger crap you might need.

tool roll is sounding like a good plan. Most of the ‘tools’ in that context are long, like the BB tool, chain whips, etc… So many of them will fit nicely into a tool roll for sure.

Underneath the top layer:
Pliers
Hammer
Cable cutter
Chain Tools
Bearing tools
BB tools
Brake bleed kit
Damper/Fork servicing stuff

Then there is a bag with sealant, spare mech, different shock springs, cleaning stuff and lubes.

Use the same kit at home and away and is built around mine and the other halfs bikes, no point carting around excess tools.

Will get a revision soon, as the foam isn’t that space efficient, so will go to foam for the top pallet and dividers beneath. Will be binning off some tools that I dont need anymore.

Schroedinger’s Toolbox. It’s excellent as you always have every tool you might possibly need.
Or at least you can’t prove you don’t have every tool you might need, as it’s impossible to see what you do and don’t have….

SirHC, that’s just weird. Doesn’t it piss you off when you lose one of the Allen keys and there’s this space glowering out at you 🤔

I really wanted an Abbey one but at that price it’s a naw.

We have an Aldi Work zone DIY tote bag. It rest on the shelve in the garage and when we are in the camper or van just lifts across. That way we don’t have to double up on tools and always have what we need to hand where ever we are, bottom left in pic

I use the same toolkit at home and away. Currently everything’s in a decent-sized Stanley toolbox, except rarely used things like headset press, headset removers, etc. Not the easiest to dig to the bottom and find some tools though, so I’m considering something with drawers so I can find stuff easier, something like this that seems to get reasonable reviews:

I have 3 tool kts.

Tool bag. Easily portable holds 90% of the tools you need for all jobs, bike or DIY. Spanners, screwdrivers, allen keys little socket set, measuring tools, hammer, small saw, gloves, molegrips and such.

Bike specific box which holds the specialist stuff like BB tools, chainwhip, brake bleed kit, cassette tool and consumable spares, mainly brake pads.

Big tool kit for the heavy stuff that’s rarely used.

It’s a good system because you just grab the boxes you need for the job at hand. Always the tool bag, bike box if it a bike job. Flexible.

The magma one here as well. Hangs open above bench in garage, when we go away I roll it up and lob it in van.

I’ve got one of those Bucket Boss tool rolls arriving this week (from Amazon US). Hopefully its as good as the Magma!
