    Hi chaps,

Why would Avid use a helicoil in there brake mounts? I *somehow* pulled the helicoil out of one of my matchmakers – which I guess would assume putting too much torque through the mount, which seems crazy as I only do my mounts up so they just stop moving – so probably only around 4nm.

Anyone know what I can do to fix it? I’ve never used a helicoil before…

    Here’s a photo:

Helicoil/thread insert ought to be stronger than bare aluminium- looks like Avid are trying to introduce a bit of gorilla-proofing, but it doesn’t always work out.

Run a tap through it and put a bigger bolt in would be the easiest and cheapest option

Lol. That does make sense, as the clamps are a PITA to line up – so I can see how people could strip the threads or damage bolts.

Maybe I need to buy a helicoil insert tool…

Edric… thats one of the options I was thinking of. The threads just need chasing I think, so I’m in two minds about doing that and just using a bigger bolt (I have Avid bolts which would fit)
