So, road bike, 17.12 mile ride which I did in 58 mins & some seconds. Would you say that was reasonable or do I need to work on it? Wouldn’t say I was going flat out but had a sweat on. I’m not really a person who ‘trains’ as such but I just like to keep my fitness level up (a bit)
You may slag me off if you wish.
Depends on what you are trying to achieve.
For me, 17 miles is almost a sprint, so I would be aiming to ride faster.17-18 mph is a decent speed for a longer ride.
How much climbing in that? TBH its a bit variable unless your taking into account the route / wind / conditions etc.
As a general average thats 17.3 ish? Not bad, now try doing a 100k and averaging it 🙂 FWIW I’ve just completed my first winter training & ride 3 x per week and am averaging 18.2 over 70k, 18.7 over 50k on a calm sunny day, with about 800m of ascent / descent.
Not really trying to achieve a lot I suppose, just wondering if I was reasonably reasonable! Did pass 3 ‘casual’ looking guys though.
Not much climbing, just some rises. Fairly calm evening too.
Ahh well, must try harder!
When I’m racing 50/60 miles my ave is around 27/28mph.
I second the 😯 . VERY impressive speed. Kristian House from Rapha Condor averaged around that on what looks like a time trial over 55km so kudos. Tony Martin managed about 29mph on the TdF final time trial over 43km too.
So probably worth calling British Cycling ASAP as it looks like you’re up with our best.
Geraint Thomas averaged 35.5mph earlier today, so I reckon your 17mph must be a bit lame
Mebbe, but he’s not 55 yrs old & at least 2 st overweight like me!
Wilko is a cyborg sent back through time to own people, on a bike with a triple ,after riding to and from where ever the event is ,whilst trying not to break sweat.
