Will Avast conflict with an out of date Norton Antivirus?

Fed up with Norton and want to try something else. Avast seems to be well recommended.

    Any help gratefully recieved.

    cheers

Yes. AV programmes generally don’t get along, and IIRC Norton hates everything, even when seemingly “uninstalled”.
To fully uninstall Norton, you need to do it in a certain order and then make a couple of easy registry edits. Unfortunately I lost the walkthrough, so you’ll have to Google for it I’m afraid.

I use Avast, have been for two or three years now and I’m more than happy with it,and have never had any problems, don’t know about how it will deal with an out of date Norton inst though…….

Use this http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 and never let Norton near your computers again.
