Thread hijack: where do you get them as well?

They are big as the size takes into account that you wear them over stuff.
    Ebay to the second poster!!

I see, so if normally a 32/34 go for 32 as they're on the large side.

    Ewan

Get a size bigger than you think so you can wear them comfortably over baggies.

    You get them from ebay.

Cut off just under the knee (wearing your pads if you normally ride in them).

Over baggies! Intend to go straight over lycra.

so you're planning on wearing lycra, then armour, then baggies, then waterproof baggies?

WTF are you planning on riding?

We all have these for wet weather biking, got ours of ebay a £5 a pair and have been useing the same pair for the last 3 years, we just ordered our normal size

I ordered my normal size but found it hard to get at pockets, so brought a bigger pair. Up to you I guess, but I like baggy.

Note they have no pockets in them if you're wearing straight over lycra.

    Are they fairly baggy Tracey?

Are these really GoreTex? If so, they are bargain of the centuary. Is it possible to get non-DPM?

Yup – the army's version of it. I have a full suit of this stuff for wet weather camping and it keeps everything out. It is pretty bulky though, so no good for stowing in a rucksack…..

I've got some and find them quite a tight fit. Mine only have the elastic waist, some on eBay have a drawstring waist that would be better to stop them pulling down.

They are very waterproof, 5hrs in the rain with no mudguard and they're still keeping water out. Mine were £17 off eBay. Think it was a seller called field textiles.

Yep proper goretex and properly bomb proof – still 100% waterproof after 4 years use and seems not to care abuot the grit i grind into them. After a camelbak, probably the best value i've brought for biking in the last 10 years odd.

If you cut them down to shorts and roll up they are tiny. You can only get DPM, as that's what the army use.

    Tracey

Yes fairly baggy and I wear them over baggies. They roll up to a very small bundle and are always in my back pack

these sound wick. do you people with them stick them in the normal wash? take it for that price you don't bother with techwash, etc.?

The ones I have aren't "proper" goretex (no goretex branding anywhere) but are an equivalent MVP (moisture vapour permeable) fabric. Good quality though, taped seams etc.

Never washed them. They only get used when it rains so I just hose them off.

They're not branded gortex, but they're the armies equivielent.

Have we got waterproof breathable membrane inspection specialists on this forum or label spotters? The military has bought kit off many major manufacturers and if the manufacturers want the very lucrative contracts then they have to make stuff to a spec. That spec does not include branding labels. I was wearing proper unbranded goretex before most of the world knew what it was. They were quite happy sweating the knackers off in their rustly jackets! The clothing would be a small part (financially) of what Gore supplies the forces with. Same technology but very different application.

Military outer clothing tends to be cut on the larger side i suppose its so it fits over kit and the like.Careful when choosing the size you need.

Just dug out my issue kit. My trousers are 104cm (kin hooooooge) but fit ok over clothes but would probably be too baggy just over lycra. The drawstring sorts it all out. I'm a 38" 96cm waist btw. Just bought some 38" to chop off and cycle in. The longs I've got now are like brand new and too good for fishing to butcher.

Mine arrived this morning. 34" fits spot on over lycra. No chance over baggy clothes. Seem brand new too, not a mark on them. Recommended.

Mine came today too. 38" spot on as shorts over lycra. Would be ok over baggies but not if you had pockets full of stuff. There's no pocket holes anyway.
I got mine from ebay but found this since. It's grade 2 stuff but seeing as you are about to butcher it it seems like a good deal.

Well they are on the big side… But if you are still wondering which size to get, lets face it take two 😉 After all you can have them on the fleabay for a price that would suit a cheap yorkshire man.

And I got one that I use as a short I think it's my best purchase in the last 3 years
